I had the honor of meeting a delegation of officials from Africa Improved Foods factory in Rwanda @AIFRwanda, who are in the country to explore a partnership aimed at supplying nutritious, fortified foods to our children. Recent health reports in Uganda indicate that over 26% of our children are vulnerable and affected by stunting due to poor nutrition. This collaboration, supported by a development partner, seeks to provide our schools with improved, nutrient-rich foods to help address this challenge. In addition, the company continues to support our local economy by purchasing large quantities of soya, maize, and other agricultural products from Ugandan farmers each year. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministries of Education, Health, and Agriculture, reflecting a shared commitment to improving child nutrition and well-being. met the parents and the innocent baby whose story I saw on social media yesterday. The baby was assaulted earlier today. The suspect has been remanded and will be brought back to court on Friday. I have referred the baby to Mulago National Referral Hospital for specialized treatment and care at the cost of the Government of Uganda. The baby is in pain and is now receiving the necessary medical attention. Sincere thanks to the Ministry of Health and Dr. Rose Byanyima, head of the hospital, for their support and for ensuring the baby receives care until full recovery. This afternoon at Nakasero State Lodge, I received former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Chairman of the Board of Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, and his team. These groups support us through relevant science, packaging and financing, as well as advocacy. Our discussion focused on key agricultural issues such as irrigation, improved seeds, fertiliser use and strengthening local seed systems to increase food security and household incomes. On livestock, I informed them that in the past cattle moved long distances in search of water and pasture, which made disease control difficult. I requested support for research on animal feeds to address the challenges farmers are facing today. I welcome their partnership.
