@FloWritesCode SwiftUI still doesn’t have the same level of functionality that UIKit does or that AppKit does, but it never will because they’re just certain things that you cannot make declarative so the best way to use SwiftUI is in concert with the older stuff

The amount of people supporting this (despite it being a joke on April fools day), tells you a lot about the current vibe in the iOS dev scene... While I understand that people who used to do UIKit now go back with agentic coding (as it speeds up their slow process), I cannot understand why new developers choose UIKit over SwiftUI (And I strongly believe that most actually don't. X is an echo chamber for minorities).

@The_One_JH @FloWritesCode That is objectively wrong. Apple does, in fact, use swift UI internally.

@FloWritesCode SwiftUI is for prototyping. Not even Apple internally uses it. So the move back to UIKit is just logical.

I want to try to see how good it is at generating alternate text for images, maybe make an app out of it. I’m sure I could integrate something like Gemini or ChatGPT, but that cost money. A lot of money.

I think this weekend I will finally try to figure out foundation models because I have not played around with it at all and now that I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max, I can actually try it on both the Mac and iPhone. I want to see how much tokens a standard iPhone photo takes

Courses by @academind_real are fantastic and very much worth the price. However, if you are blind, save your money and look elsewhere because they are not accessible to blind people.

Every other MacBook has had backlit keys for over 15 years. Even budget Windows laptops have it. Now the white keycaps do help with visibility in low light. But for students typing in a dim lecture hall or on a late-night flight. Not ideal. It’s not a dealbreaker. But it’s the one cut I wish Apple didn’t make.

@justalexoki Apps cannot access Apple’s FaceID API. You can only technically access it via passkeys, but FaceID is optional in that case. The only true way to verify that a human is present is a Face Liveness scan that immediately deletes. Instagram already does it and so do many other apps

It is because of that complexity that many state government agencies are struggling, and I can’t say I blame them with compliance coming up in April of this year. It is concerning, but there are certain carve outs in the new title two ruling that will alleviate some pain

If there is anything that can be considered a “final boss“ when it comes to digital accessibility, it would have to be PDF documents. Remediating PDF documents is hard. You’ve got static documents and then you have forms. Much more complex and failure points.
