South Africa’s elite is constantly coming up with priorities that trump growth and jobs.
Well-paid politicians and senior public servants, “activists” of various sorts, businesses that want protection from competition, academics in a range of fields - for too many of these people there is always something more important than an economy that generates jobs in a country that makes it easier to start and grow a business.
In a country with decades of world historical levels of unemployment there is something staggeringly self-regarding about powerful people who refuse the idea that the interests of those in or near poverty are not the priority.

Henry Nowak died the same way a civilization dies: abandoned, handcuffed by authorities who neither trusted nor cared for him, and accused of hate crimes he did not commit. His murder is as tragic as it is enraging. He should still be alive today, and he would be if the last few generations of European elites had stood their ground against the politics of self-hatred and the mass invasion of migrants, many of whom despise the West and the people who love it. Henry was far from the first to so needlessly lose his life, and I fear he won’t be the last. Each time a life like his is lost, the proper response—the only response—is righteous anger. One of the most important things the Trump administration has proven to the world is that stopping the flow of mass migration and defending national sovereignty is a matter of political will and leadership. Anything else is an excuse. It is because we love the West that we want to preserve it. We love our civilization. We love our country. We love our children. And nobody—nobody—should ever die the way that Henry Nowak died. May God comfort those who loved him, and may God rest his soul.

Instead of elevating millions of impoverished citizens, the existing structure has predominantly enriched a narrow, politically connected network of billionaires and politicians who assume lucrative board seats and equity positions without injecting genuine operational capital.

Elon Musk could have simply paid off the cadres, and it would have been officially reported that he complied with the regulations.
Starlink would then be operating in South Africa, just like every other business right now.
The bribe would not even be the full 30%, it would be far less, pocketed directly by the cadres, and these cuts do absolutely nothing for the average South African.
It is an extortion system, hand over 30%, ask the investors for a bribe to get clearance, and then report to the public that they complied.
This routine is an extortion system set up by political patronage to enrich private empires, not South Africa.
B-BBEE laws have done nothing for the South African people, but they have done a lot for politicians and their immediate circles.
