@JonnyRoot_ He was facing the wrong way and his momentum was taking him away from the ball, yet he tried his best and actually got a touch. Freese was at fault here

If you’re the captain of the USMNT and the ball is shot right at you, you HAVE to stop it in this situation. Put your body on the line.

@GreatmenArs Merino didn’t get so clinical because Arteta played him up front. Arteta played him up front because he realized he was clinical and intelligent.

@Sachk0 Tuchel comments based on what he’s seen from the sidelines. When you’re in the dug out watching these things, it is natural to be very biased.

I’m sorry, but what did the officials get wrong? Both penalties correct, especially the Harry Kane one based on what we saw with Luka Modric earlier in World Cup. Red card? Correct again. Come on, Thomas Tuchel.

@PeixaoMilGrau They don't give penalties just because someone goes down. You need to look at things like: did the keeper go for the ball Would Endrick have gotten to the ball if the keeper hadn’t clipped him? It was an embarrassing miss at the end of the day. There are no excuses.

Deixando de lado a chance clara que o Endrick perdeu, isso aqui foi MUITO pênalti. Se fosse para a Argentina, sem dúvidas, o VAR chamava. Detalhe: nesse momento estava 0x0

@bob601448932428 @ArsenalGunny @Lacazest Yes because I know he will die for the team whenever he plays. He might not be the best winger, so let’s get world class players to challenge him. He’s a really good human and a team player and that is very important for harmony in a squad.

Don’t quite understand why Martinelli was taken out of the match btw. Thought he was the best Brazilian on the pitch, easily. Time for him and Gabriel to get some much needed rest before the Arsenal season starts again! 🧘🏻‍♂️

@kss8kbm18 @AFC_Rexzzy When a player of his stature (he’s a superstar in his country) is willing to throw away his ego because it’s the right thing to do, that’s a class act for me.

@Stunna47z @AFC_Rexzzy It’s harder to congratulate your opponent when you’ve lost badly. And when the opponent made you run around like kids. What Neymar did on the pitch to Odegaard was really petty but this was class act. Give him some credit.

@TrevorJudge They are complaining because they would have done all the prep to face a US side without Balogun and FIFA just did something unheard of in world cups that now destroys all of their prep.

🚨 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: The Royal Belgian Football Association has released a statement in regard to Folarin Balogun being able to play against them. "The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is astonished by FIFA's decision to declare suspended United States player Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA–Belgium match on Monday, 6 July at 5:00 p.m. (Seattle time)." "FIFA bases its decision on Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This provision states that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee may decide to suspend the enforcement of a previously imposed disciplinary sanction." "However, Article 66.4 of the same FIFA Disciplinary Code clearly provides that a red card (sending-off) automatically results in a suspension for the team's next match, as has been the case for all previous red cards issued during this FIFA World Cup." "Furthermore, and irrespective of the above, the decision is in direct contradiction with the provisions of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Competition Regulations, as set out in Article 10.5: "If a player or team official is sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card (second caution), they will automatically be suspended from their team's subsequent match. In addition, further sanctions may be imposed." "The automatic nature of such a suspension was also explicitly reaffirmed in FIFA World Cup 2026 Circular No. 16, which was distributed to all participating member associations on 12 May 2026." "The same rule is reiterated at every FIFA World Cup 2026 Match Coordination Meeting prior to each match and is included in all FIFA World Cup 2026 workshop presentations. "In order to safeguard the legitimate rights of all participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport, both at this FIFA World Cup and at future editions of the tournament, the RBFA is investigating all potential options."

@MBolu12553 @appiecule Portugal couldn’t defeat Colombia because Colombia actually played better football in that game. France couldn’t beat Paraguay because Paraguay defended really well as a team which many acknowledge, but they did unnecessary dirty & shameless stuff that wasn’t necessary at all.

I think Messi deserves more credit for winning two Copa América titles against teams like Paraguay. France, arguably the strongest team in this tournament, couldn’t break Paraguay down. In the end, they needed a penalty to win. Throughout the game, Paraguay did everything they could to disrupt them—hard tackles, constant fouling, provocation, trash talk, and relentless defensive discipline. That’s exactly what Messi had to deal with for well over a decade in South America. The kicking, the insults, the mind games, the physical battles, and entire teams defending with everyone behind the ball. What Messi did against these kinds of teams for so many years is exactly what he did again at the 2022 World Cup. That’s why achievements like his should never be taken for granted.

@MBolu12553 @appiecule It’s in no way connected to the France v Paraguay discussion. Stick to the topic. On a side note - Messi is the g.o.a.t in my eyes too. But that bit is not connected to this conversation.

@AimeEmery1 @kat_from_eu @FabrizioRomano While it’s fair to say fifa did it for Ronaldo, there’s a HUGE difference between his case and what’s gone on with Balogun. How do you suspend a red card mid World Cup?

@Andiswacebekhu8 @chuckfav @cfcjhunior_ @FabrizioRomano He said - Messi goes through this all the time, yet delivers. I just pointed out that he didn’t deliver the last time they met. Why even bring Messi into this conversation? I love Messi and he’s an absolute legend but it’ll be good if people can stick to a topic
