American bread is generally so bad it makes me sad. I sight every time I'm passing these isles in the store, as I love bread. Generally food might be the weakest point of living in the US, even more than broken healthcare even.
A result of long process of optimization, where smart people have been figuring out incrementally how to make it cheaper to make, more convenient etc. without people noticing, at the expense of it being good food, and population slowly forgetting they are actually eating some hi-tech slop.
