@AetheriusARTRN Ah geez -- I finished up my sabbatical and didn't think I had the tool in a complete enough state to release. I'm back at work now. :(

@blobyblobyblob PLEASE I NEED these features you've been showing for your building tool. I've been using your tool for so long and it's still amazing but these features would take it to the next level.

Here's a feature I've seen requested a million times without a solution: temporarily hide selection boxes. Precision drags are pretty tricky when you have selection boxes blocking your view. With my tool, you hold f, and all selection boxes disappear until you release the key.

@Anaminus One very unintuitive thing is that InputObjects stay live longer than you might expect, leading to this behavior: devforum.roblox.com/t/getting-the-… In short: you may be able to track the mouse across the entire screen even in a custom implementation.

A unique advantage of ScrollingFrames over a custom implementation is that the scrollbar can track the mouse across the entire screen, not just the viewport.

@MaximumADHD Story of my life, lol. I have a roll-your-own stylesheet implementation for a project I'm working on... if nothing else, having an implementation in Lua means you get better control. I suspect the property mixing will be a feature only your solution has.

It’ll probably be made obsolete by Roblox’s upcoming property stylesheet system, but it took a lot of iterations for me to find an ideal solution to this problem and I’m really happy with it.

This is probably still one of the most elegant scripts I’ve ever made. It provides a weighted priority layering system for the properties of an Instance, allowing multiple scripts to coordinate control over the value of a property. gist.github.com/MaximumADHD/29…

@sleitnick Ahhh I'm that guy. When I'm checking it into the code base, I toe the line, but if I'm just exploring... all lowercase baby.

@asimo3089 I've always thought the clever solution to cheaters is to detect, but not punish. Then, match-make them all into the same server so they can ruin each others' experience. I know some games do it.

Honest question, how do other competitive games on Roblox keep their heads above the water? The cheating is relentless.

I wanted to some flags and banners in my game, so I wrote a plugin that lets you hang bunting from rope constraints.

@TheNickmaster21 You should try writing Luau in the internal text editor. :P I know ymmv, but I found the Luau static analyzer was running on the same thread that processed text input, so there was killer (2s) input lag. That's what forced me off-platform.

@sleitnick Here's another good one: TextButton.InputChanged will give you a number with the GUI inset _even if_ the textbox is inside of a BillboardGUI (which don't even have a concept of GUI inset).

UIS:GetMouseLocation() and UIS.InputChanged (to capture mouse movement) spit out different locations... One uses UI inset and one doesn't. That is very annoying

@sleitnick I think you probably defined a different T when you were defining your `Bin` table. Try removing the <T> after Add. Or be explicit with your return type.

Alt-clicking to select parts in studio was always a feature that annoyed me. For my build tool, I have alt-click open up a pop-up that allows you to select a model instead of a part. Normal clicking just selects a part.

@Crykee @yourius I don't speak fluent crypto-bro but I think he's envisioning lootboxes aka gambling, which is... a contentious feature of both games and society.

@yourius I don't see an issue with having a variety of different games for different people. Most PC players play competitive games. What's the difference between this and a tournament prize pool?

@Onogork My plan is to decide what I think is fair, then price it on roblox & on some other platform so I get the same cut regardless (you'd have to install the plugin manually if installing externally). I'm certain 82 pence isn't fair for you.

If rates were more favorable towards the creators it'd mean assets/plugins could be priced lower and made more accessible... When pricing, it feels like I am undervaluing my works worth so that customers aren't being overcharged because of Roblox's gouging cut.
Onogork@Onogork

400 Robux is roughly £5 on buy in, and roughly 82p when a developer cashes out. There's £4.18 in-between, it'd be nice to know where that money goes; plugins don't use all the services that a game does, and yet they are taxed the same way.

@Onogork This has been my bane, too. I try to do my best to tell the user what they can expect in real time by using a wireframe, then let the chips fall where they may w.r.t. voxel update time. I've tried chunking the updates to marginal benefit.
