@the_austin_hull @General_Raptor He's a good kid but he's gotta get Gunsite's cock out of his mouth. I've spent 10 days on the range with 2 different former Gunsite instructors. I appreciate what I learned from them 10+ years ago but time has moved on.

@General_Raptor @bmitori “One of the reasons given by people skeptical of attending Gunsite is that they think they will be forced to shoot only the Weaver position.” If you have to post a “review” trying to dismiss this… it’s not good.

@samstein @CitizenCohn Why wasn't he still in jail for his earlier crimes involving firearms? Why is it that you love gun laws, but hate enforcing them? "acceptance of gun deaths in America" America just had it's lowest homicide rate- ever. nytimes.com/2026/01/22/us/…

Eight children were killed in a horrifying shooting a few days ago. We collectively shrugged our shoulders and moved on. @CitizenCohn on the state of acceptance of gun deaths in America—and why it doesn't have to be this way. thebulwark.com/p/america-just…

@Guntalk @General_Raptor Every pistol is a "target model" because everything we intend to hit is a target. You need to stop using "defensive" as an excuse for poor marksmanship. An example of former Tier 1 guy shooting at the range: youtube.com/watch?v=6L8TNh…

@bmitori @General_Raptor Just my shooting. Not a group from a rest. Trying out a “new” gun. Not a target model. Defensive setup. If putting all the shots in the eye box doesn’t interest you, that’s no worry. Make yourself happy.

Just got two old 1911 45s back from Dave Fink, the gunsmith at Gunsmith. 7 yards. That'll work!

@TheGeardo347 You don't zero sights on your pistol with a "fast cadence of fire". You're calibrating a machine.

@bmitori Ehhh, depends on distance and if they were pushing a fast cadence of fire. Of course, the more realistic scenario is these are "zero groups" and a lack of fundamentals. Hey, we all gotta start somewhere. But showing this off and listing excuses before hitting send is wild.

We're not talking about finding time to practice playing piano, we're talking about carrying a gun in public and perhaps having to use it. No, this is not acceptable.

@jjeckerman Both USPSA and IDPA have "find a local club" tabs on their website where you can enter your zip code.

@bmitori I’ll definitely keep that in mind for when I’m less broke — what’s a good resource for finding local clubs? I only know of maybe one or two in my area of Michigan.

People have a lot of misconceptions about competition shooting. It costs $20 an hour to shoot at the local indoor range. For $20 I can shoot a half dozen stages over the course of several hours at my local action pistol club.
NDTechGuy@ND_TechGuy

@bmitori @studentofthegun There's also no proof that comp shooting is better than other means of training either. It's a Gucci bag for guys. Expensive and does the same thing as cheaper options. Driving sprint cars on the weekend doesn't inherently make me better at driving a minivan or a cop car.

@General_Raptor @Guntalk It really sucks at the beginning, but it's like pull ups. The only way to get better at pull ups is to do more pull ups.

@General_Raptor @Guntalk He had adjustable sights so technically they look a tiny bit off, but they weren't the reason why he was missing.

@guy_mdz At no distance would that demonstrate a zero'd pistol.

@bmitori It's important to know the distance he shot the group to pass judgement, but even at 25yds that's not that great, especially that horizontal stringing in the head, no idea what could've happened there.

@bmitori @EdwardDarson Simulator or CCW-tailored FoF, I guess. Shooting local IDPA and USPSA matches with your EDC and without gamifying it is as close as you’re likely to find locally, though, and is a great way to identify skill and equipment gaps. Especially if you include some low-light matches.

@Kyle7735 @Guntalk I don't understand why he's slow fire group shooting a customized 1911 at 7 yads? The 25 yard line exists for a reason. Nice shooting. Was that freestyle?

@Guntalk The much maligned Series 80, from the factory, shoots pretty well for me. Still, I’d love to have Fink’s go through it someday. Bought this gun ANIB and it required some break-in. The barrel/bushing fit is fantastic. The sights could use an update. This was shot at roughly 30 ft.
