**Some Personal News** THE TEN YEAR WAR, my new book, is available for pre-order. It’s an effort to tell the story of Obamacare and, more broadly, the story of American politics over the last decade. (1) read.macmillan.com/lp/ten-year-wa…

Took my daughter to “The Sheep Detectives” knowing nothing except it was the only G or PG option at the theater. Deeeeeelightful. Four quadrant, all-ages, high concept, heartstrings player like they don’t usually make anymore. Good and for everyone.

🚨 We’re in a teachable moment - and we’re blowing it. The same voices who said “no mandates” and “we will not comply” are suddenly fine with hantavirus quarantines and Ebola travel bans. This proves: people support public health measures… when they feel threatened by someone else’s “freedom.” So let’s have some real, nuanced conversation about the value of public health measures (including “mandates”) vs individual freedom trade offs, instead of mindlessly repeating “we will not comply,” or conversely denying that many covid measures in fact went too far…
Jerome Adams@JeromeAdamsMD

Also, I don’t know who needs to hear this, but a travel ban, compulsory testing in airports, and forced quarantines for those deemed at higher risk… are ALL public health mandates.

So hard to believe @StevenCheung47 is a real person, and not an actor in a film spoof of a failed autocrat's court.

Managing this 'here' vs 'there': The U.S. has been using this outbreak as a pretense to put in a lot of restrictive travel policies. Even if many of these actions aren't really helpful or operationally meaningful, they are often a bipartisan move that usually gets put in place in response to Ebola outbreaks. But this administration has gone way beyond funneling people into certain airports for screening. It's banning outright travelers, including permanent residents of the U.S. This is a policy you put in place when you have nothing else meaningful to add. It gives the appearance of doing 'something' while effectively doing nothing of value at all. And it takes away attention from where the real problem is. For justification, they claim this move is “critical to slowing the introduction of Ebola disease into the United States”—but the only thing that’d meaningfully reduce that risk is actually ending the outbreak in DR Congo and the region. These moves are just a proxy for the more important and impactful work we could and should be doing. This piece by @bylenasun & @LaurenWeberHP gives a good rundown of the most recent policy on restricting green-card holders that've been in the region from coming back to the U.S. washingtonpost.com/health/2026/05…

The fact that our current HHS Secretary felt the need to send out a tweet strongly clarifying he does NOT support rapid & innovative vaccine development as a response to a global public health crisis says a lot about where we are as a society right now, and who is determining US health policy… 😩
Secretary Kennedy@SecKennedy

Don’t believe Internet fearmongers. @HHSGov defends public health AND supports medical freedom — period. HHS action … ❌ Does NOT pave the way for a new mRNA vaccine ❌ Does NOT provide Big Pharma with new, limitless protections from liability ❌ Does NOT allow for mandates of ANY kind ❌ Does NOT apply to any other medical products ❌ Does NOT apply to vaccines HHS action … ✅ Facilitates expanded access of favipiravir — and favipiravir ONLY — to treat hantavirus ✅ Allows individuals possibly exposed to Andes virus to access this drug ✅ Only covers VOLUNTARY administration and use — NO mandates ✅ Provides protection for a VERY LIMITED TIME, through July 18, 2026

This is unsettling. The #Ebola confirmed and suspected case count is at 958 already in DRC, with 5 confirmed cases in Uganda. (Uganda doesn’t often disclose suspected case numbers.) This has all the makings of an ugly and protracted outbreak.
