@JamieMetzl If the US succeeds in Iran, then Trump has plans for Canada, Greenland, Cuba, and Venezuela. Trump's vision of Greater North America isn't a foreign policy I can support.

I am a Democrat and a lifelong human rights advocate. I very much hope America is as successful as possible in our war with Iran and that the Iranian regime will be neutered. I fully support our troops. Any Americans who think otherwise should be condemned.

@dkupiecki @hkakeya DKup is a boob. He's one of the extremists who believes there is zero evidence that the virus was manipulated. As if Baltimore softening his phrasing means the furin site has no evidentiary value.

This occurred while he was an active virologist. As I said, what matters is not character, but whether one is retired. He could say the CGG-CGG codon in the FCS is the smoking gun of a lab leak because he was free from COI. Even Angela Rasmussen might be honest once she retires.
orion77@orion7710

@hkakeya I'm not sure David Baltimore was a model of honesty, even though the 1986 journal "Cell" contained fabricated data generated by his colleague, Thereza Imanishi-Kari, I always wondered if she was under the instructions to do so by Baltimore himself.

@ydeigin @mattwridley @angie_rasmussen I find it amusing that Rasmussen continues to defend her paper and the importance of the Huanan market in the origin of sars2, especially since she doesn't fully understand the methodology behind the claims. I would like to know how she contributed to the paper.

I think @angie_rasmussen and I had a pretty civil exchange here — and I appreciate that. COVID origins is one of the most polarized and vicious topics out there, and it doesn’t have to be. It’s totally fine to disagree and weigh the same set of facts differently — that’s how science works. What matters is engaging with the actual arguments rather than dismissing the people making them. I think if we had these debates in person rather than on Twitter, we’d all be nicer to each other. Online debating tends to bring out the worst in us. For my part, I’m making a conscious effort to be respectful to people I disagree with. They’re not enemies, just opponents — i.e. just people with opposing views, many of whom deserve respect. I mean, outside of Covid origins, some of my strongest disagreements (e.g. programmed vs. non-programmed aging) are with people I actually like and cherish. I’m looking at you, @afedintsev 🙂
Yuri Deigin@ydeigin

Thanks for featuring my post and my face so prominently on the cover of your video. I just wish you’d actually addressed it (the post, not the face) in the video. Instead, you frame the lab leak case as “it happened in the same city as a coronavirus lab.” But that’s a caricature strawman of my argument. My point is that it’s not just the location, it’s the timing. This is the very lab that proposed to hunt for SARS-like CoVs with spikes 10-25% divergent from SARS1 and engineer furin cleavage sites into them just a year before the outbreak. That’s a very different argument from “there’s a lab in Wuhan.” I’d welcome you actually engaging with it.

Maybe you heard somewhere that the COVID-19 pandemic started with a lab leak? NO! That is NOT what the evidence shows. It was not a goddamn lab leak. I’ve had enough. Here is what the evidence shows: it was zoonotic spillover at the market rasmussenretorts.substack.com/p/five-reasons…

@angie_rasmussen Rasmussen is using an insignificant Republican Party proposal from Texas as clickbait. Does anyone care if the Mills County, Texas, Republican Party proposes a ban on mRNA research? She has missed the spotlight since covid and is looking for her next fix.

The lab leak theory is genuinely just one of the most delusional consensuses in history. It’s substantially more improbable than the theory that Trump legitimately won the 2020 election and yet it is treated by everyone other than a select few as plausible or even likely.

@angie_rasmussen Rasmussen discussing the mountain of zoonotic covid evidence published in top journals sounds remarkably like Trump's bid for a Nobel Prize for all the wars he's ended. Trump can't be ignored, but Rasmussen's self-promotion and doubling down can and should be; she's a sunk loss.

The sheep has been here since the Neolithic. It built the wool trade that built medieval Britain. It funded the abbeys and the cathedrals. It preserved history on its skin. It clothed the world. It maintained the habitats we now spend millions trying to restore. It provided medicine, cosmetics, and material science from a hillside on grass. It got into the founding myths, the bedtime rituals, and the language. It sits, symbolically, under the Lord Chancellor in Parliament. It changed what a cell could become and gave its name to a country music legend in the process. In return, we've given it a reputation for being slow, a bit stupid, and not particularly interesting. The sheep has responded to this assessment by continuing, without comment, to do everything it has always done. On the same hills. In the same rain. Maintaining the same turf. Passing the knowledge of the land to the next generation in a way no fence or map can replicate. The sheep does not require your acknowledgment. It would be nice if it got some.

PSYCHOLOGY FACTS 1. People who shake their legs while sitting? - Their brain is always running faster than their body. 2. If you talk to your pet like they understand everything... - Congrats, you have the softest heart ever. 3. Messy room = Mind full of creative ideas
you haven't sorted yet. 4. People who talk to themselves a lot? - They don't need anyone else to hype them up, their mind is their best friend. 5. The quiet one in the group? - They notice everything and speak only when it's worth it. 6. If dark humor makes you laugh, - Your brain is built different - high IQ + zero filter combo. 7. Overthinkers may stress a lot, - But they're also the ones who feel deeply, care deeply, and create beautifully.
