Salma was 18 when she lost a childhood friend and close relative to AMR and pneumonia. This motivated her to pursue a research career. Salma’s project is investigating resistance to zinc toxicity in S. pneumoniae. #WAAW #AntimicrobialResistance

@chloemayestoque is a PhD candidate exploring how the immune system uses essential micronutrients, such as copper, to kill Streptococcus pneumoniae.

🫁 Pneumonia is the single biggest infectious killer of adults and children. 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘱𝘯𝘦𝘶𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘦 is the primary cause of bacterial pneumonia and is a major focus of our research in the McDevitt Lab.
