@Red_8210 @FOXSportsKnox I didn’t see this particular speech, and maybe it’s not the case here. But I am absolutely certain that we have taught players to quit. Look at the examples where kids have transferred three and four times. Did they really end up in three or four really bad situations? Doubtful.

@corvanta @FOXSportsKnox No we are not teaching players to quit but where is the leadership, support encouragement… that was not shown at the podium… just a bunch of criticism… NIL isn’t going anywhere so 🤷🏽‍♀️I do agree there needs to be stipulations on the portal at some degree.

Lady Vols guard and former five-star recruit Jaida Civil has entered the transfer portal, leaving coach Kim Caldwell with ZERO players on the roster. Civil, one of the top players in the 2025 recruiting class, will enter the portal after just one season on Rocky Top. Civil, a McDonald’s All-American, posted 6.4 points per game on 41.5% shooting in 30 appearances. The #LadyVols have lost 13 players since the end of the 2025-26 season due to eligibility or entering the transfer portal. High school signee Gabby Minus is the only player still tied to the Lady Vols. Will Kim Caldwell survive the offseason?

@Red_8210 @FOXSportsKnox NIL is fantastic. Unlimited transfers, essentially having every player be a free agent is the problem, and will not last. This is why some very good coaches are stepping away. A system where nobody is actually committed to each other doesn’t make sense.

@Red_8210 @FOXSportsKnox Good lord. There have always been and always will be players in any sport and any level that don’t like the coach. The combination of NIL AND open transfer portal isn’t working. Sometimes life isn’t perfect and players need to suck it up. What are we teaching youth? Quit?

I’ve spent my entire life focusing on the success and well being of student athletes. Their success in both sports and academics is paramount. I have no problem with Athletes making money and I have had that stance for many years. But what we have been dealing with the last few years is harmful not only to their total success but also the longevity of College Sports as we know it. Yesterday, President Trump took bold action to preserve and protect Collegiate Athletics. I urge Congress to pass bipartisan legislation and SAVE COLLEGE SPORTS!

Here’s one way that I’m actually more militant on this than most - and always have been. Absolutely zero need for non-revenue sports. Meet the Title IX requirements - that absolutely matters - and that’s it. This isn’t high school. You don’t need after school activities.

The transfer portal has screwed up college sports. My bill is simple: you get 5 consecutive years to play 5 seasons and you get 1 transfer. After that, if you transfer again, you sit out a year. This will fix 80% of the issues in NIL today.
