Why are so many podcasts only on YouTube these days? Watching a podcast is not a productive use of time, I much prefer to listen to podcasts while out and about e.g driving, walking, running etc. Please provide rss feeds so I can use @pocketcasts to listen offline 🙏

Yeah absolutely. Issue is (imho) that people are not doing the ‘supervised’ bit (it’s Full Self Driving Supervised, not FSD) and you, the driver remain responsible and in control -or be prepared to be in control and be ready to take over. If it was doing 60 mph up to that construction/coned lane (again before the video sequence) then I would have certainly cancelled it and slowed down. Perhaps this is what this driver did but forgot to take her foot off the gas pedal and press the brake pedal in stead? All of this video is the human driving. FSD or Autopilot/whatever you want to call it, was not on. The human has maintained this speed right up to the impact, by pressing the accelerator. If she hadn’t, it would have slowed down considerably of course. Now was FSD on before? Yes, it seems like it was (although Elon has confusingly said it was on Autopilot-but I think meant FSD). Was it an early software version? Yes, most likely. Is that an excuse? No. Was it going too fast when it was on (before the video)? Arguably, yes. And this is the issue I think perhaps Tesla /FAD may actually bear some responsibility. There is a slow 15mph speed sign right at the start of the video (when it was already disengaged). Was there one previously? I don’t know. Maybe. If there was, then again, it would be reasonable to point the finger perhaps at the car. This is a beta product and people relying on it and not paying attention to supervise it is the issue. Like that idiot who removed the bloody steering wheel and airbag on his! Humans make millions of driving errors and have crashes because of not paying attention or getting distracted daily. I do believe a well trained Ai /ADAS is and will be much safer than humans , but there’s always going to be some risk and exceptions. Newt.

@ctrlaltrefuel @alex_avoigt From what I’ve seen, the danger times tend to be the edge cases, I wonder if anyone has done analysis of whether it’s safe than a human in these edge cases? It’s the edge cases that will get you killed.

@DrMoragKerr Yeah. Water had hit int the pack. There’s ’umbrella’ mushroom valves that periodically open up to vent. If the car is underwater, they can allow ingress. So he’s for sure left it in floodwater or similar.

@ctrlaltrefuel I never heard anything further about it. I just knew that the ostensible reason for Tesla not honouring the warranty was obvious bullshit. The owner said he drove it to a restaurant for a meal, then when he came out it wouldn't start in the car park. Lying?

One imagines this will likely turn out NOT to have been on FSD, but- Reminder: there is no ‘self-driving mode’. Only SUPERVISED full self driving exists. YOU are still the driver and must be ready to take over. Like a plane on autopilot, the pilots remain in charge. How can she think she can sue? Thoughts? Newt.

@ctrlaltrefuel What happened about the broken-down Tesla in Edinburgh where the owner claimed Tesla had refused to honour the warranty because the car "had been driven in heavy rain"? You can't throw a stone in Edinburgh without hitting a Tesla, and news flash, heavy rain is situation normal.

It’s arguably more alert and awake/aware than us and less likely to malfunction. It doesn’t follow a map of the road. It visualises the world and renders it like we do and so would have easily coped with this scenario. But nothing is infallible is it. Will be interesting to see.

@ctrlaltrefuel I personally can't imagine trusting FSD to cope on a road like that, but then what do I know. You could be right, it could be simple driver error and she's trying to blame it on FSD.
