Unpopular opinion: A lot of “mental health issues” are actually survival issues. Secure housing, food in the fridge and bills paid. Stability isn’t a luxury, it’s prevention, and pretending money doesn’t affect mental health is a privilege!

The study that started No Mow May was retracted in 2022, but the campaign kept going anyway. The original idea was good: mow less in spring so emerging native bees have more flowers. But what actually blooms in an unmowed American lawn is mostly non-native. Dandelions, clover, creeping charlie: they all came over from Europe and don't support the native specialist bees the campaign was supposed to help. The bigger problem is what happens June 1. People mow their tall lawns the day the calendar flips, chopping caterpillars, evicting bumblebee queens, and potentially destroying the nests of rabbits and birds in one afternoon. Better alternatives: Mow less all summer (Slow Mow Summer is what Appleton, WI calls it now). Reduce your lawn size, replace turf with native flowers. Plant goldenrod, native asters, milkweed, and other native flowers. Those are the plants the specialist bees actually need. No Mow May is better than nothing, but real native habitat is better than No Mow May.

@TreborJoss @PattyMurray It’s not taken under supervision. They give you the pill and send you home. If any problems result, you’re still going to have to see a doc or visit an ER. For all the women who don’t experience problems this just makes it more difficult (or impossible) to obtain it.

About 1 in 25 women go to the emergency room after taking mifepristone, mostly due to the heavy bleeding causes by the drug. Of these visits, about 1 in 200 gets hospitalized. Not a lot of serious complications, but this drug should be taken under a local physicians supervision.

The Fifth Circuit just told millions of women that three judges know better than the FDA, their doctors, and 25 years of evidence. They don't. This restriction on medication abortion is a nationwide abortion restriction, full stop. I have no intention of letting this stand.
