Not because they were willing to proxy-war across four continents and leave millions dead in the process. Not because they propped up any dictatorship, no matter how brutal, as long as it was anti-communist. Their ideas. Their values. The inherent appeal of the American way of life. This is what they tell themselves. And from inside the bubble, it makes perfect sense. From outside the bubble, you see a country that spent nearly half a century destroying any alternative that emerged, not because the alternative was failing, but because it might succeed, and success would disprove the story. You don't need to suppress bad ideas. You only need to suppress the ones that might work.

The idea that capitalism = freedom is a myth. Capitalism restricts freedom in countless ways. Under highly capitalist systems, basic needs are commodified. Freedom becomes paywalled. Rich people have freedom, poor people don't.

Billionaires pay far more in taxes than anyone else does, but even so, most of their money is tied up in stocks and ownership in companies. Jeff Bezos, as per your example, does not have anything close to $222 billion in liquid assets on hand. If you want to use a fraction of that $222 billion to fund insulin in the United States, then do your damn job and call on your colleagues in the Senate to allocate OUR tax dollars for it. Get off of social media and do something to stop enabling fraud, then work to balance the budget, and put the federal government's tax revenue to good use instead of worrying about what rich people do with their own money that you didn't earn and aren't entitled to have access to.
