We are now at the stage that people expect 100% accuracy from referees. It can't happen while humans referee. However no-one is interested in the human part anymore. Old Trafford Sunday, 300 decisions nailed on, 1 red, 1 penalty. Zero reliance on VAR which people say refs should be stop doing. Any league without VAR that is given as a FK. One finger touching the ball is deemed in control, people forget that. Our officials deserve far more credit than they receive. Martinez made a mistake and no-one is talking about it, again players can make mistakes but referees cannot. Villa didn't turn up, no-one is talking about it.

You can’t blame Thomas Bramall’s terrible decision on VAR. It’s down to the referee. He blew too soon. VAR would have rescued him. There are some very good referees in this country but the overall quality needs improving. Having 10 games at the same time was always going to highlight that. Villa rightly angry over a shocking and expensive refereeing mistake.
