Did you know, referees could tell players "no more" they could bring captains in and tell them if player x does one more he's carded. It's a contact sport. Fans, Pundits, everyone thinks every tackle is a card, we need to get back to that. #eflcup #premierleague #pgmol #kepa

@WhistleBlowerDK This sets up the Man City "agreed" punishment nicely. Everything can then be put to bed nicely, just in time for new regislation with clearer punishable guidelines.

@no1lino @TheIFAB @FA_PGMOL Not saying you didn't have scrutiny, and it's a horrible situation to be in that shouldn't happen because of who and what you do. I realise there is no real debating you, I've never met a perfect official and don't believe I will, you hate who you hate, and won't change.

With far less scrutiny in the public eye, I know you don't agree with that, but your days don't compare with today's, and how many in your day were wrong but technology wasn't around to say it was? To support your argument in one area your scrutiny was Keith, your peers, and accountability was present. However your era had something about you, it had a presecence, refs were allowed a laugh and you could give as good as you got, players are different today. What would I prefer in today's game, your group of officials but I also want yesterday's technology involved. Goal line, comms and buzzer flags. I know that sounds like I'm stuck in the past, but the game as a whole was better back then. In my opinion of course. Somenthings I will agree but some I won't but it's good to debate 👍

@no1lino Poor VAR. I'm with Keith on the need for an independent group. Although I like the appeals system, I think it will add to the game. However @TheIFAB are increasing it's use 🙈

I agree not helped by a lack of leadership and good coaching. Inconsistency reigns at the moment
The Shelf Life@TheShelfLife25

@SkySportsPL The referees are pathetic at the minute! @FA_PGMOL - no consistency - too reliant on VAR to blow their whistles - because they don't want to be seen as wrong - card happy for merely asking a question or being frustrated about one! It's embarrassing! @HACKETTREF

@pizzapat246 It's hard to explain from stills, they suit the fans narrative. If two people are fouling at the same time, from opposing teams who gets the FK / PK?

Referee haters out in force today, completely blown up by the click bait brigade pushing incidents that weren't. This weekend it is official every team that dropped points it was because of the referee, and every team that got maximum points it was because of the players.

@WhistleBlowerDK People who ask this question clearly don't have a brain cell or understand the game as a whole, only through a blinkered view and hatred towards people doing a job they wouldn't attempt to do, which is surprising because its an easy job.... isn't it?

Wenger has proposed this but 60 minute games, which is more than we currently get, with independent timekeepers would work in opinion. The ones that worry me, are the GK "timeouts" its done to disrupt the flow of the game not just time wasting. Or players / coaches and managers can apply the spirit of the game and stop circumventing the laws when they can.

@dancolosimoo Do people not know the fourth official does this? Like is it not common knowledges the fourth official literally records all stoppages and durations and calculates added time; just cause the clock doesn’t stop on your screen doesn’t mean the officials aren’t a stopping theirs

The VAR Effect: Premier League Referees must operate a robust and consistent strategy ASAP at corner situations to put an immediate stop to similar routines as at #EFC last night. There are levels of physical contact in these moments and Everton knew exactly what they were doing, over-stepping the threshold of acceptable - It was Extreme and it can’t be allowed to continue. As soon as ball is played, award a defensive free kick, there will be a foul and they will soon change their restart design. No VAR intervention as the ball is only just in play - it’s the only way to stop the ‘Extreme’ and unmanageable routines of certain teams. The moment the ball is in the goal, both the VAR and the referee have an even bigger problem and high profile incident to deal with. The key is be clear on expectations in pre match meeting with the clubs and Strong and consistent in-game. Not dealt with, these situations will become more regular, very difficult and no doubt contentious. Pre VAR, referees would deal with these moments, referee skill set. PGMO need to empower their referees to manage in the moment and protect the games image.

I imagine meetings with the PGMOL and the premier league. "We've seen this happen and we don't like that rule." "They are Laws." "Don't care we don't like it." You can't change it , that's the laws of the game" "We'll reduce your funding then". "What law do you want to change again?"

Paul Tierney hasn’t refereed an Arsenal game for two years before today. You can see why.

Yes I offered him demotion to the Football League after delivering some very poor performances. He would not accept that so he quit.

@HACKETTREF Matt Messias was a poor ref and he got his marching orders I seem to recall.
