This is across the board for all artistic media. It’s not really a failure of artist or medium so much as a consequence of everything moving online. Uncut Gems, one of the few movies made in the last 15 years that might possibly have long-term cultural significance, is not really a film proper but a sequence of memes complete with stunt casting and viral marketing. Many “cool” movies now just follow in its footsteps. But very few things made today will have cultural significance because we’re past the era of cultural significance.
