@RCP_RDC And while event one is trained to the same level, maybe not in the same things! Though some is core wherever you practice.

We need a radical rethink of how and where postgraduate medical training is delivered. Our next gen survey showed 28% of respondents said rotational training should be scrapped altogether; 50% said it should continue only with reform. The NHS must take this seriously 👇
Royal College of Physicians@RCPhysicians

34% of our next gen survey respondents said geography is the most important factor when choosing where to train, with 41% saying geographical rotational training had a negative impact on their experience. Read our latest blog as Dr @sarahlogan76, calls on the NHS to pilot ‘stay local’ training schemes for our submission to the NHS England national medical training review: ow.ly/t2BI50W8jx4

@ABarotchi1 @DrDLittle @RCRadiologists I think it’s difficult, because it’s easy for someone to decide after something has been done that it wasn’t necessary. But it’s a very different situation for the EM Doctor seeing the patient before the imaging.

One of the most striking statistics in the 2024 @RCRadiologists workforce census is that “In England in 2023/24, the number of referrals from emergency departments for CT and MRI scans rose by 13%”. 13% in a single year! How can we keep up with the such rapidly growing demand?

Medical Care is building a resource hub to support the hospital to community shift. They’re looking for guidelines, examples of effective models across specialties and more. If you have relevant resources or know experts who can contribute, please email MedicalCare@rcp.ac.uk.

@DrDavidWarriner Rest days will be a key recommendation of RCP Job planning guidance, it shouldn’t be annual leave.

After 5 years as a consultant, I’ve made the conscious decision to take annual leave the Monday after my weekends on-call. Decided it wasn’t fair on me, my patients or (most importantly) my family, to spend 2 weeks at work with no break in between.

@PRFitzsimmons @Nsutebu @nhsUHLG Such sad news Paul, Emmanuel made such a difference with his passion for sepsis care, loved all the work we did through GDE together and learnt a lot from him. What a sad day and a terrible loss. Thoughts are with his family 💔

Deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dr Emmanuel Nsutebu @Nsutebu. A very decent man who did so much for #sepsis care @nhsUHLG, in the UK and Internationally. Am proud to have played a small part in some of his QI work. He will be much missed. Deepest condolences to his family

@VickyKomrower One of the behaviours I am seeing from execs and others in some places is to “blame” acute medicine for delays in assessment, when it’s a system flow issue. Acute medicine has a vital part to play in early assessment, but can only do this when the whole system pulls together.

Reflecting on the recent SAM conference whilst I listen to other talks. Interesting how many people at mentioned the effect of feeling undervalued as an acute medic. We can and must restore pride in acute medicine whilst banging the drum about how much of a difference we make.

@AmandaPritchard @wesstreeting Will this include the ineffective reporting to NHSE, and unproductive checking! Information teams spend so much time doing that, no time to work with clinicians on their data to drive improvement.

Tim Farron, "The unpleasantness about this debate is only matched by the lack of proper information" #BBCQT "85% of refugees settle in the country next to where they come from" "The French take 3x more refugees than we do" "The Germans take 4x more refugees than we do" "If you put us back in the European Union, we are 19th in the league table when it comes to the number of refugees we take per capita" "Do we need deterrents? Yes. The best deterrents is competence. If we assess people when they arrive - and they are not illegal immigrants - they are people seeking asylum.. From Sudan.. Afghanistan.. Iran.. Syria.. 90%+ turn out to be genuine refugees" "If we have a competent government, and we haven't had one, let's see about this one.. And you assess them quickly.. And return the ones that are not refugees" "That is your deterrent" "Rwanda was a waste of money.. If they spent that money on case workers we could have processed these people, returned the ones that weren't refugees in a humane way, and let th eones who are genuine refugees, become British, pay their taxes, be part of our country, and we should be proud to admit them" Very well said @timfarron 👏
