@GloriousFFXIV man, just put yourself in her shoes. imagine someone you see as family suddenly confesses to you. of course you'd have all kinds of complicated feelings. feeling betrayed doesn't necessarily mean you WERE betrayed, but feelings aren't always rational

@prefertorope @sweetsaintbakes @nicoraytruth Oh you were serious. The Communist Manifesto was written after Joseph Smith but the roots of the ideology and socialism started in the french revolution. At worst you can complain about semantics but you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.

@sweetsaintbakes @jamestfryman @nicoraytruth Stay out of it if you're so worried about being a peacemaker. Delete your own comment. The church was organized in 1830, genius. 1847 was 17 years later. And they didn't have the internet. Marxism didn't reach U.S. Gov't until the 1860s, 40 + years after the first vision.

Communism is not economics. It is evil. It is darkness. It is millions of corpses. One hundred million in a single century. Twenty million under Stalin. Forty five million starved in Mao’s Great Leap Forward. A quarter of Cambodia butchered by the Khmer Rouge. The gulags. The killing fields. The mass graves of Ukraine, dug by the very state that promised the workers paradise. It is being brutally murdered by totalitarianism. Every single time. There is no version of this ideology that has held power without burning churches, shooting priests, starving farmers, and teaching children to inform on their own parents. That is not a bug. That is the doctrine. The state becomes god, and everything you love, your family, your faith, your conscience, becomes an obstacle to be liquidated. So spare me “the temple recommend questions aren’t about economics.” Communism is not an economic opinion. It is an anti religion with a body count. A man who embraces the communist creed that filled those graves is not disagreeing with you about tax policy. He is carrying the seed of the thing that wants your church demolished and your children re educated.

@jamestfryman @nicoraytruth Well, since Karl Marx literally didn't invent communism as an idea until 1847, and Joseph Smith was literally dead for three years by that time, it literally has not been taught since the beginning of the Church. Literally.

@nicoraytruth Dude. Chill out. You can say that communism is not consistent with gospel principles and make an argument. Please don't throw stuff around like "evil" and "darkness." That is not gentleness, persuasion, or love unfeigned. Feel me? We need to disagree better.

"Did you hear? ICE killed another American!" "A citizen?" "Well, no. But he had been here for 35 years." "So he wasn't supposed to be here. Still, that's not a death sentence. What happened?" "ICE shot him!" "An ICE agent just walked up to him and shot him?" "Well, no. He hit an ICE vehicle and started to run down the ICE agent." "So he tried to kill an ICE agent."
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo called Houston home for 35 years. On Tuesday, an ICE agent shot and killed him. His family learned of his death from a video before anyone bothered to knock on their door. New York City stands with the Salgado family in demanding a full, independent investigation and real accountability. To the Salgado family and any immigrant family in this city living in fear: we grieve with you and we will continue to stand beside you in the pursuit of justice. Abolish ICE.

JD Vance reveals what his family found after his devout, f-bomb loving grandmother died. VANCE: "She was a woman of very devout Christian faith. She loved the f-bomb. "When she died, we discovered 19 loaded handguns in her house. "Not just 19, but 19 spread randomly all over her house. "What the hell did she need with a loaded handgun in the silverware drawer? "She wanted to make sure that no matter where she was, if somebody walked into her house in Middletown, Ohio, she had a loaded handgun within arms reach because she couldn't move around that well." They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

The fact that Dems booted Platner over rape, but Republicans stuck with Trump despite rape, shows how the Dems still have some morals ("HR Lady politics") while the GOP are now just pure power-seekers. But the gap is narrowing.

If you’ve never read Sullivan Ballou’s letter to his wife, correct that right now. If you have, read it again and share it w/everyone you know
Jan Jekielek@JanJekielek

On Independence Day, I had the privilege of reading a *very powerful* historic letter on the main stage of @Freedom250 on the National Mall: Major Sullivan Ballou's civil war letter to his wife, written a week before he was mortally wounded at the First Battle of Bull Run. There are many things that are beautiful about America, perhaps first and foremost is the profound patriotism of the many who fought and died to defend the ideals that this nation represents. I find Ballou's letter profound and deeply moving. He's going to war to save his nation, and, facing his own mortality, struggles between his love for his wife and children and his love of country. I have always described myself as an American exceptionalist Canadian. May the spirit of freedom and liberty of this nation never die. America, Happy 250th birthday! Here's an abridged version of the letter I read, from Ken Burns' Civil War film series: July the 14th, 1861. Washington, D.C. Dear Sarah, The indications are very strong that we shall move in a few days, perhaps tomorrow. Lest I should not be able to write to you again, I feel impelled to write a few lines that may fall under your eye when I am no more. I have no misgivings about, or lack of confidence in, the cause in which I am engaged, and my courage does not halt or falter. I know how American civilization now leans upon the triumph of the government, and how great a debt we owe to those who went before us through the blood and suffering of the Revolution. I am willing, perfectly willing, to lay down all my joys in this life to help maintain this government and to pay that debt. Sarah, my love for you is deathless. It seems to bind me with mighty cables that nothing but Omnipotence can break. And yet, my love of country comes over me like a strong wind, and bears me irresistibly, with all those chains, to the battlefield. The memory of all the blissful moments I have enjoyed with you comes crowding over me, and I feel most deeply grateful to God and to you that I've enjoyed them for so long. How hard it is for me to give them up, and burn to ashes the hopes of future years, when, God willing, we might still have lived and loved together, and seen our boys grown up to honorable manhood around us. If I do not return, my dear Sarah, never forget how much I loved you. Nor that when my last breath escapes me on the battlefield, it will whisper your name. Forgive my many faults and the many pains I have caused you. How thoughtless, how foolish I have sometimes been. But, oh, Sarah! If the dead can come back to this earth, and flit unseen around those they love, I shall always be with you, in the brightest day and the darkest night, always, always. And when the soft breeze fans your cheek, it shall be my breath; or the cool air on your throbbing temple, it shall be my spirit passing by. Sarah, do not mourn me dead. Think I am gone, and wait for me. We shall meet again.

This what happens when the police constantly target, harass and kill blacks for countless centuries. This very moment has been designed to happen. The police were initially created to catch runaway slaves and prevent them from revolting. Centuries of anger from both sides manifested this behavior. We whites just need to defund the police all together and start all over. The foundation of this country was built off pure hatred and greed. Acts like this will continue to happen because the root cause was never fixed. It’s like putting a bandage over a torn achillies or broken arm. We whites need to do better, seriously get your shit together, NOW

This thread is hilarious Nicholas Decker explains how if you take a free market innovation like insurance and allow the market to work as intended, some people whose implied expected healthcare cost is too high will be uninsurable and have to pay for their healthcare. So instead we take the free market thing where people can choose to get insurance if it benefits them, and turn it into medical communism where money is transferred from the healthy to the sick. But we still call it insurance! Compulsory insurance isn't insurance, it's a tax on being healthy. It has nothing to do with insurance. It doesn't benefit you if you are forced to pay it. It doesn't merely pool risk, it transfers wealth away from where that wealth should be into some black hole. A true free market solution would be to deregulate insurance so nobody is forced into a pool they don't want to be in.
Nicholas Decker@captgouda24

Obamacare forbade discrimination by insurance companies on the basis of health, and to prevent insurance markets from collapsing, mandated its purchase. Was this necessary? Can we scrap the individual mandate and subsidies? The answer is no -- and yet it's still good! 1/
