So here's the deal. now Mayor Lurie reached out to me years ago, before he was running for mayor, because he knew I was on the SF Drug Dealing Task Force and wanted to learn about the issues facing the area. We walked the TL/Mid Market area multiple times. He then walked it with @Twolfrecovery and with many others.
He has put in the time and gotten his shoes dirty in the hood. He asks good questions and has solid ideas. I support his resolution and hope you will too @RafaelMandelman @sfbos

I had a productive meeting with law enforcement, department, and community leaders today on 6th St discussing the unacceptable conditions on our streets and how we can get results. The Fentanyl State of Emergency Ordinance will be crucial to getting this crisis under control.

Good on our Mayor @DanielLurie who isn't taking the bait and is staying the course of keeping our local SF business first. There is going to be a new level of crazy coming out of Washington and we as a city need to react calmly and smartly to protect our communities, our values, and our most vulnerable. Proclamations are just statements, we need thoughtful action.
Our past leaders have been great at "resolutions" that have no teeth. They are a waste of time and are 100% political grandstanding. I am thrilled our new Mayor is not wasting his time with them.
It's a great way to start.

DMACC has shown results and is a great example of City, County, State & Federal agencies coordinating and cooperating, and in turn, making progress on attacking the Open Air Drug Markets in S.F.

Was just at @DanielLurie 's inauguration. So refreshing. Feeling full of hope. - Spent 70% of his speech talking about the drug, homelessness, and safety crisis: "recovery is possible" was his message - Stayed tactical and introduced a bunch of novel ideas, like a dedicated hospitality district @SFPD task force, a dropoff center for people who refuse help, and public private partnerships to rapidly expand shelter - Made clear that SF will NOT be a destination for drug dealers and drug users, and that those coming here will be held accountable - Promised that despite the budget cuts we need to make, our first responders will not be affected Most of all, Lurie came off like the genuine, decent guy I know him to be. He asked for this job, understands his mandate, and knows the time is NOW to make change happen. Best of luck to him. I hope he succeeds, for all our sake.

San Francisco’s partnership with federal prosecutors has been key to ending the 24-hour-a-day drug markets that once operated with impunity in SOMA and Tenderloin neighborhoods.

Violent crime in SF is horrific and even if attackers are caught, they are often released immediately.
