@goldenbearwire Cam Walker also said he was shocked to hear over the weekend that he was about to hire someone he had never talked to in this process. If there had been mutual interest, USU has/had the money to pony up for the coach that he felt fit the direction the program is taking.

@goldenbearwire It's called a hell of a deal, to get a coach that knows how to win with minimal talent that USU also got without paying a buyout. With the Calhoun buyout and NIL increase, USU has money to spend on players.

For context, Cal pays Mark Madsen approximately $2.5 million/year. USU never had a shot.

I just received contract details for Utah State's new head coach Ben Jacobson. His annual salary will start at $1.2 million, increasing by $50k until it reaches $1.4 million by the final year of his contract. The buyout is 75% of the cumulative remaining salary with each year's term ending on March 31.

@brittonlarsen1 0 resources at UNI in the NIL era. The fact that he went to the tourney this year shows he can still coach. If he was 5-10 years younger everyone would say we got the next Calhoun/Sprinkle in town. At his age, I would assume that unless Iowa/Iowa St come calling he is not leaving

@frrper @CurrentUSUAggie It is a fair point. Calhoun waited until the team bus got to Logan to talk to the team. Calhoun's deal was done before the MWC tournament started. So it isn't like he told Cincy I am coming 30 seconds before the team left. He could have told the team before they left San Diego

@NoSocksJonny @bananaman899 A guy who is barely over .500 for his career and under the last 10 years, oh and no tourney appearances since the 20/21 season. Josh had a great start to his career but has significantly fallen since then. UNLV was so desperate they hired a guy who nobody wanted for 2 years.

PAC2 and MWC5 were so focused on a now meaningless logo that they missed out on a very good add in UNM. PAC has been groveling for UNLV, and as of late have added UNM to that list. Should have just merged with the top 9 MWC teams instead of pounding your chests in superiority.

Feels like a pretty underwhelming hire tbh. Certainly could work, but I don’t think Jacobson was one of the top 7 targets Utah State had on its big board at the start of this thing. Screams budget hire. The “coaching factory in Logan” hypothesis will be tested here.

Utah State is expected to hire UNI head coach Ben Jacobson, source told @thefieldof68. Jacobson, 55, has been the head coach at UNI since 2006 and has won 397 games in his time with the Panthers. Jacobson went to back-to-back NCAA tournaments in 2015 and 2016, and took UNI to the tourney this season.

@lobogabe Jacobsen is 10 years older, but a great comparison. I am shocked at how many USU fans are pissed off, yet they were begging for USU to hire Olen, when it is obvious he wasn't leaving. The fact that he made the tourney this last year proves he hasn't forgotten how to coach.

@kaithelobo I am not sure why we aren't praising this hire? We just got a guy that made the tourney with essentially $0 in NIL support & knows how to find diamonds in the rough. I cant wait to see what he does in the Spectrum with some actual support. If he keep Mason & Templin, even better.
