@smallworld101k Woah thats so exciting to hear! I’m still on MST but already looking forward to read The Last King of Osten Ard 🥹
English

@minncoma I'm almost done w/ Witchwood Crown n already have the next book in the series. Believe it or not this is my first Tad Williams! I didn't read MST! I saw he is releasing another Osten Ard series this fall! And yes I agree with you, I love solid prose. Not a fan of the tiktok bks
English

@AlexChaircheck @p4silver Haven’t read Otherland yet 😭 I’m currently reading MST and I LOVE it so far, really excited for Last King of Osten Ard
English

@thebrainlete Wait I should’ve given actual books 😭 for incredible prose and overall insane storytelling (to me 😭): The Realm of the Elderlings (Robin Hobb), Memory, Sorrow and Thorn (Tad Williams), The Triempery Revelations (L.L. Stephens), and Wars of Light and Shadow (Janny Wurts)
English

See I was starting to believe I was just getting too picky about prose as long as the characters grew on me and the story was entertaining, but I’m glad other folks be noticing too 😭
minn@minncoma
After reading a few fantasy books (some of which I’m still currently reading) with genuinely masterful prose, going back to some modern fantasy feels… a bit too simple 😭
English

@thebrainlete Ooo what genre are you into? 👀 I mainly read epic fantasy, so my recs lean that way 😭 But for prose I’d say Robin Hobb (immersive/emotional), Janny Wurts (dense and layered), Tad Williams (rich and atmospheric), and L.L. Stephens (really solid, polished storytelling overall)
English

@LoneDroog Yeah that’s fair 😭 I can see why a more direct style would feel less cringey. I haven’t read him yet, but I’m actually looking forward to it now 👀👀
English

@minncoma Yeah he is very character voice heavy and not that good at world building . But compared to other modern writers, I kinda feel way less cringed by his prose cause he's so direct at times. I know it seems contradictory but with the audiobook combined it seems so heavy.
English

@am_anatiala Wait I’ve never heard of this 😭 Definitely checking it out, sounds really interesting. Thank you so much for the recommendation!
English

@minncoma the winged histories or anything by sofia samatar; she's also a poet so the prose is really gorgeous
English

@shrikefeathers Exactly 😭 it’s just a totally different experience in terms of richness and texture
English

@laramie_graber The Raven Scholar is already on my shelf 😭 heard good things about it so I’m hopeful. I’ll check out the other recommendations as well, thank you!
English

@minncoma There are still modern fantasy books with good prose. The House of Vermin, The Spear cuts through Water, The Wings Upon her back, The Raven Scholar... Though admittedly they're often not the most popular.
English

@Undrscore_Vinyl I get what you mean 😭 simpler prose is more common now. I guess simpler works for some people… (?) just not for me def
English

@minncoma I keep trying to tell ppl that books have been dumbed down.
English

@minncoma Try writing by SA Chakraborty! Both Daevabad Trilogy and The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi are fantastic plots, mythologies and well researched
English

@LoneDroog Haven’t read him yet 😭 but from what I’ve heard he’s more character-focused than prose-heavy (?) not too sure, he’s on my TBR though
English

@falyrionient Right 😭 I’m a bit worried… really hoping it’s just a delay and not heading toward a cancellation
