Despite loving independent exploration, I couldn't resist joining @ZoComputer to help build their AI powered cloud computer that is increasingly my home on the Internet. It’s got that magical early startup energy where the people that get it can’t stop talking about it and use it in ways beyond our imagination. It’s incredible to work on a product that I use every day and I get to make it better for myself. Projects are better when shared and because creation and hosting happen in the same place on Zo, things get off of localhost and out into the world sooner. A long time ago, Zo knew that we should be able to text our AIs to do real work. It's exciting to play with ideas that are central to how we work and make things today - agent orchestration, memory, giving everyone superpowers. I think Zo might be one of the best all-in-one tools for small businesses and solopreneurs (like my wife) and it’s pretty rewarding to see how it powers them. I’d already been hanging out at their office with the team, and now I get to hang out and talk with them even more. I love working on projects with friends and @perceptnet and @0thernet are two of my closest and smartest friends and their partnership and this product all felt inevitable and right. LFZoooo!

You should actually go to jail for saying certain terrible things and the evidence is growing that expanding the First Amendment in the middle of the 20th century was a mistake. Which means both Loomer and Piker should be in prison. I think the UK has the right idea about this.
Sarah Longwell@SarahLongwell25

Because this is America and you don’t go to jail for saying terrible things. You go to jail for *doing* terrible things. Hope that helps.

I put this comment on Zvi's blog which I mostly otherwise agree with except the part about Sam Altman which was too long and I didn't read it. cross posting here because I think a a lot of people are wasting their time arguing with trolls and strawmen (on all sides)

@phrygiandomina @So8res I think this is explicit any international agreements to limit training would require a monitoring and compliance regime backed by force the force hopefully doesn’t get used! and any agreement would be between govts (and perhaps large companies), not rogue actors or terrorists

@So8res Thats a very explicit way of saying that violent acts are fine, the issue is just whether they are effective or not. Its a logical conclusion for someone with xrisk views I suppose, but I can tell already that the next few years will be you guys clumsily dancing around saying it.

A few weeks ago, a journalist asked: If you believe AI is so dangerous, why aren't you attacking datacenters? Eliezer replied: If you saw a headline saying I'd done that, would you say, "wow, AI has been stopped, we're safe"? If not, you already know it wouldn't be effective.

(me): so we bundle instructions and data together into “cache lines” to improve efficiency (medieval peasant): wouldst thou not fear false idols when fetching from yon predictive oracle? (me): well, yeah. that’s why we invented “speculative execution” (peasant, trembling): and when this prophecy fails? (me): then we must perform “branch misprediction recovery,” restoring the righteous state (peasant, grimly): truly, thou art plagued by thy hubris, courting divine retribution with each cycle

(Me): so, we create this "virtual memory" to trick processes into thinking they have a contiguous address layout (Medieval peasant): Would not thy abstraction swell the tally of mem'ry lookups? (Me): well, yes. to deal with that we created the "translation lookaside buffer"

On many views, one of God's favourite things is for humans to properly praise and worship him, seems like increasing the number of people who do that is plausibly infinitely valuable.

Sometimes people are like "if you're a Christian who believes in hell and also an EA, you should fund conversion efforts". But I think you don't have to believe in hell for this to be true.

Here's a fresh demo I made for @zocomputer - Zo is OpenClaw, without the setup - But it's more than that: it's a Personal Cloud - You can chat with any kind of file in your Zo - You can scheduled tasks for your AI - I made a task that checks what I'm playing on Spotify every minute, finds the corresponding YouTube video, and adds the track to a SQLite database on my Zo - My personal website (hosted on my Zo) displays those tracks - You can text or email Zo. I made this website just by texting Zo! - Tons of built-in integrations, or you can just ask Zo to integrate anything - There's a built-in browser, which Zo can use - We snapshot your computer all the time, so you can rollback to any point in the past - The hardware is elastic, so you can scale up as needed Thank you @kaneko_sh + @ysk_en for inspiring the video after our conversation today. Excited to bring Zo to Japan! 🗾
