Despite loving independent exploration, I couldn't resist joining @ZoComputer to help build their AI powered cloud computer that is increasingly my home on the Internet.
It’s got that magical early startup energy where the people that get it can’t stop talking about it and use it in ways beyond our imagination.
It’s incredible to work on a product that I use every day and I get to make it better for myself.
Projects are better when shared and because creation and hosting happen in the same place on Zo, things get off of localhost and out into the world sooner.
A long time ago, Zo knew that we should be able to text our AIs to do real work.
It's exciting to play with ideas that are central to how we work and make things today - agent orchestration, memory, giving everyone superpowers.
I think Zo might be one of the best all-in-one tools for small businesses and solopreneurs (like my wife) and it’s pretty rewarding to see how it powers them.
I’d already been hanging out at their office with the team, and now I get to hang out and talk with them even more.
I love working on projects with friends and @perceptnet and @0thernet are two of my closest and smartest friends and their partnership and this product all felt inevitable and right.

@tomfgoodwin @yrechtman @TheArgumentMag @KelseyTuoc and someone should make that argument! to quote the article itself:
“ Skepticism is more than warranted. But we desperately need better skepticism”
English

@yrechtman @TheArgumentMag @KelseyTuoc You can make the argument that AI is magical, being adopted widely, but not creating enormous widespread value as such.
English

Ed Zitron could have been an important critical voice about AI but instead he’s become a histrionic grifter shifting the goal posts at each new milestone

You should actually go to jail for saying certain terrible things and the evidence is growing that expanding the First Amendment in the middle of the 20th century was a mistake.
Which means both Loomer and Piker should be in prison.
I think the UK has the right idea about this.
Sarah Longwell@SarahLongwell25
Because this is America and you don’t go to jail for saying terrible things. You go to jail for *doing* terrible things. Hope that helps.

@MaxRovensky @robcobbable @ryxcommar Tbh NYC needs rich people. But if you live there the tax doesn’t apply to you
English

smart tax. A valid concern about taxing the rich at a state or municipal level is that they'll move. But that's irrelevant if you tax people who already don't live in NYC. You even see people like Jason Calacanis trying to pull the "they'll flee NYC" line. It doesn't work here!
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor
Happy Tax Day, New York. We’re taxing the rich.
English

@MaxRovensky @DanAlroyPhilo @ryxcommar if you're already spending $238M on the penthouse, the tax isn't going to change your mind
it might lower the price of these units! but not to zero
English

@DanAlroyPhilo @ryxcommar My point is for HNWIs evaluating a potential presence in NYC, this significantly skews the decision away from it
English

@squarepianocase @deepfates its online jargon
parallel of a strawman, except the interlocutor is real
English

@deepfates Is nutpicking a term of art here or just a great typo?
English

@jxnlco if i had a dime for every time my agent chose to pass the "--break-system-packages" flag to pip instead of using uv like i told it to i might have enough to repair all my system packages
English

@phrygiandomina @So8res I think this is explicit
any international agreements to limit training would require a monitoring and compliance regime backed by force
the force hopefully doesn’t get used! and any agreement would be between govts (and perhaps large companies), not rogue actors or terrorists
English

@So8res Thats a very explicit way of saying that violent acts are fine, the issue is just whether they are effective or not. Its a logical conclusion for someone with xrisk views I suppose, but I can tell already that the next few years will be you guys clumsily dancing around saying it.

(me): well, yeah. that’s why we invented “speculative execution”
(peasant, trembling): and when this prophecy fails?
(me): then we must perform “branch misprediction recovery,” restoring the righteous state
(peasant, grimly): truly, thou art plagued by thy hubris, courting divine retribution with each cycle

@alexgolding_ @0thernet @Sam_Kantor @zocomputer a lot of people are on discord! not just gamers
makes me dream of what slack could have been if they didn’t torch the free offering

@0thernet @Sam_Kantor @zocomputer @robcobbable target audience there is gamers, no? are gamers using Zo a lot?

Here's a fresh demo I made for @zocomputer
- Zo is OpenClaw, without the setup
- But it's more than that: it's a Personal Cloud
- You can chat with any kind of file in your Zo
- You can scheduled tasks for your AI
- I made a task that checks what I'm playing on Spotify every minute, finds the corresponding YouTube video, and adds the track to a SQLite database on my Zo
- My personal website (hosted on my Zo) displays those tracks
- You can text or email Zo. I made this website just by texting Zo!
- Tons of built-in integrations, or you can just ask Zo to integrate anything
- There's a built-in browser, which Zo can use
- We snapshot your computer all the time, so you can rollback to any point in the past
- The hardware is elastic, so you can scale up as needed
Thank you @kaneko_sh + @ysk_en for inspiring the video after our conversation today. Excited to bring Zo to Japan! 🗾

@Sam_Kantor @0thernet @zocomputer meta's t&c for whatsapp are pretty restrictive, so we're unlikely to build a whatsapp integration for now :(
English

@robcobbable @0thernet @zocomputer I'll wait until it's officially supported, not trying to get my WhatsApp banned
