@JohnTillUK The railway is a hostile environment today. As passengers we are not really wanted there, we are merely a hindrance to the successful operation of the railway.

Travelled quite a bit by rail over the last 72 hours - when did our railway become so negative in terms of announcements? All I’ve heard is tons of messages about everything I can’t or shouldn’t do or shouty human announcements barking orders at customers. We’ve got to get better

@RoseHappy4Ever @EastMidRailway Yes, initially. Ultimately Network Rail (known as the tax payer) will fund any costs incurred by this incident. That includes taxis and hotels and the compensation to the operators for the delay, a tiny percentage of which will be paid out to passengers in delay repay.

@EastMidRailway I'm not on the train just wondering... does EMT have to pay for hotels for the passengers who can't get home by bedtime now?

@markcreid @thetrainline It would be better for customers if they lost their accreditation as they would have done years ago if the whole thing wasn’t so corrupt.

@thetrainline I'm not clear why you need that information from me. It would be better for customers if you didn't interrupt their purchase with adverts for things they can't have.

Why does every interaction on @thetrainline app now involve them prompting me to get a railcard, none of which I'm eligible for?

@Nikki9712957931 @BruceDevlin Agreed, but then LNER don’t even keep their toilets and waiting rooms open until the end of service at some of their stations so I doubt there will be an improvement.

@BruceDevlin @LNER I still think lounge times and availability need to be more tailored around train times given the expense of train travel especially in first class. A 9am opening is too late even if it’s a Sunday!

#firstworldproblems etc but dear oh dear 😅 @LNER now no lounge in Newcastle. Couldn’t this have been on the app when checking all running to time? Would have had a coffee ☕️ in my hotel but now at the station. 🚉 beyond disappointing, no point in paying the premium.

@JoCollina @LNER @genesongs Given that the seats are full and there are often 150 people standing on the train where do you suggest those standees go? Many of them have paid more for their ticket than those with seats. Do we just say “sorry try tomorrow”?

@LNER @genesongs Come on @LNER that's rubbish. It's time to scrap the unreserved seating and have allocated seats only. It takes 2 minutes to reserve a seat when you have an open ticket

@swtrains_watch @JohnTillUK My local station to York (3 trains) used to be 1hr 48m total (of which only 50m of that was on train, the rest being connection time), it’s now over 3 hours due to changing times around. For reference It’s 1hr25 to 1hr35 by car.

@swtrains_watch @JohnTillUK Whenever things get retimed nowadays (particularly on local services or connections to and from) they always seem to get much longer wait times meaning connections are less likely to be missed but the overall journey time increases massively to the point it’s less viable.

As a customer today, you can understand why passengers get frustrated sometimes. Making this journey ( and it’s an hourly service ) and the first train is a few minutes late - connection pulls out as we’re walking from one platform to another. Apparently it “happens all the time”

@JohnTillUK There’s often multiple connections that would be missed by people in these circumstances, if the operator just held them all by default this could have a knock on effect for most of the day. Unfortunately in many cases even when they say they’ll hold a connection it’s a lie.

@EJ_McGuinness @AmexUK @HSBC_UK @monzo @SouthernRailUK Ed, CCTV on the railway is entirely for the benefit of the railway, if they’re not losing out they will be unlikely to consider helping. The BTP are a box ticking exercise to make it look like you might be safe on public transport.

I was pick pocketed on a train from London to Woking (within a 10 min time frame) on 23rd Dec - they stole my wallet and if it wasn’t for the expert rapid response of @AmexUK, @HSBC_UK and @monzo I’d be £100s out of pocket. Given @SouthernRailUK and Woking Station are blanketed in CCTV, and I gave the precise venues where by cards had been used, including the ticket gates (where you can see yourself being recorded on CCTV), and a local vape shop, it’s really strange that @BTP have decided this isn’t even worth a cursory investigation. “Petty” crimes going unpunished erodes public trust in society. I am not surprised people don’t even bother reporting them anymore.

@EastMidRailway Apologies. We’ve been lied to, not held at all, infact our train was held at a red to let the Worksop train go. Probably 20 taxis for passengers then. Quite poor.

@EastMidRailway given the late running of the 1935 from St Pancras to Nottingham will you be holding the 2125 Worksop train at Nottingham or will we be having a fight for a taxi again?

@StaudacherMJ @greateranglia @transportgovuk GA do. It’s the only way to provide an incentive for operators to undertake revenue duties (other than individual guards selling tickets on board and earning commission from it if that is still a thing on GA).

Since @greateranglia refuses to answer who receives penalty fare revenue, I’ve submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to @transportgovuk. Simple transparency question deserves a simple answer.
Mich@el St@ud@cher🇪🇺@StaudacherMJ

@greateranglia Quick transparency question: Under your current National Rail Contract, who receives penalty fare revenue — GA or DfT? And what happens to that money? Just curious about the financial structure post-franchise system.

@trainfanmatt This will have been operationally convenient for them. There is no passenger focussed reason to run more than the bare minimum on any service as it’s more cost effective to short form. A second set clearly needed moving.

@EastMidRailway EMR put profits before customers, too many late, cancelled and overcrowded trains that cost a fortune to use. The sooner your nationalised the better

From our commitment to tackling fare evasion, which ultimately costs rail customers and taxpayers, between April 2024 and March 2025 we recovered nearly £2 million from fare dodgers. Over 11,000 notices were issued to customers found travelling: - without a ticket - with a child ticket as an adult - without a valid railcard - beyond the destination printed on their ticket Read more 👇 news.eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk/news/no-ticket…
