@NicDensley @g__j And I think it’s similar with the energy market. Greg’s team think outside the box and facilitate features with software. Imagine telling the old energy companies to invest in software! They couldn’t even get billing right!

I've been in this EV bubble for years now, however, I still can't see why legacy are having soo many issues. An EV is still a car, it's got a steering wheel, suspension, wheels, seats, doors, it's not that different no matter what people proclaim, the only things that's different is that it's motors and a battery instead of an engine and a fuel tank. They have years of knowledge on the fundamentals of making a car work, that's the hard bit. On top of this we've had electric motors for hundreds of years and I've built my own home battery with a damn good BMS which was not difficult. Why on earth can't they make these simpler cars at scale and cheaper?

Asking incumbents to deliver transformation is crazy. They simply don’t understand. When Ford announced the Model T “the general comment was that he’d be out of business within 6 months” (His autobiography p52)

@NicDensley @g__j Two main reasons I think: mindset and a lack of software ability and priority. Tesla seemed to create software with car hardware on it. Traditional manufacturers create all the hardware and grudgingly allow a fraction of a percentage of the development for software.

@KiwiEV @ogre_codes Hmm… seniors… what age is that? I’m 60. At age 14 I was one of the first learning computer science at school - no computer in school though. Now I have an Apple Watch, iPad, MacBooks, and spent yesterday installing and playing with Microsoft copilot for Office 365😜

@graeme_cobb Enjoy. I took one out for an hour last weekend and did lots of roundabouts. I think it’s a bad decision to remove the stalks. Will I cope with it? Absolutely - I’ve ordered one. BUT it’s a dumb move. I might be one of those adding them back.

I’m going to find out for myself on Saturday whether the new Model 3 is irritating without stalks or whether it’s ok to go stalkless. I’ve always maintained that I will try before passing judgement. Test drive booked for Saturday afternoon.

@au_tom_otive Have to say that in South Oxfordshire we get plenty of potholes - BUT - if we report them on fixmystreet.com they are usually repaired within just a few days. Reporting them works - no matter how much we bitch and moan if we don’t report them, they don’t get fixed.

So fossil fuel industry options: 1/ run-off (profitable) 2/ become niche back up provider through CCUS 3/ builds new startups in renewables with benefits of balance sheet, people, govt relations, financial expertise, but need to be ready for all the travails of startups 3/3

I think this may be a theme of this COP. Some fossil fuel companies essentially admitting they can’t do renewables. We need to electrify society and they’re essentially startups in this world. 1/n

@rbsp2bqt66 @KateFantom We’ve had two cars repaired, so definitely not true. Interestingly though the battery packs are very valuable, so if the insurance company knows it can get a good scrap price, and the repair cost is high, perhaps the threshold at which they will write it off is different.

@KateFantom That’s different. Im looking for clarification on something Ive recently been told. If an EV has a collision not matter how smaller it will always be written off by the insurance. This is down to no reliable way to check battery integrity. Do you know of this happening?

The people with whom I’ll be discussing the rain over the next week or so: 1. Family members Including frequently asking family members in other parts of the country “is it raining where you are?” 2. Colleagues Being especially sure to ask “still raining?” when a colleague appears next to me absolutely drenched. It will also be the main topic of small talk to begin every video call 3. My neighbour We shall roll our eyes, tut and say “lovely weather haha!”, both glad to have an excuse to dash inside our respective houses without looking rude 4. The supermarket checkout assistant They will ask me if it’s still raining out there and I will say “yes, it’s terrible, isn’t it?” 5. Social media I will describe the weather and someone on social media will get upset because the weather where I am isn’t exactly the same as where they are 6. The cat/dog I will say “oh you’re soaked!” and they won’t understand me 7. Myself I will stand and stare out of the window, hand on hip, other hand holding a mug, and occasionally mutter “really coming down now”
