As I sit here at home on a snow day, it would be nice for all schools up north to have either a field house or a indoor facility. These facilities are necessary for spring sports to have adequate practice space & be competitive. It’s 2026 & we’re still practicing in the gym or sprinting the halls. It doesn’t make much sense to me.. #randomthoughtsofatrackcoach

The weight room is about RESPECT. If you miss workouts, or are late, you disrespect your coaches and teammates, and the importance of training. And you are a distraction to those doing things right.

If I was a high school football coach wrestling would be mandatory for all big guys on the team as track would be mandatory for all athletes on team.

I thought Sioux County was known for basketball but 1A and 2A coaches of the year for wrestling and a junior high coach of the year for wrestling.

@CoachYashinsky @matthausmann @TweetsbyCoachP I agree with you Coach. We get kids that claim work is the reason they don't participate. Iowa has also changed laws to make it easier for teens to work later and more hours.

@matthausmann @TweetsbyCoachP I guess the perception I get from talking to kids is that a lot of them are working. Maybe statistics don’t reflect the same.

Why do you believe we are seeing such a steep decline in girls high school basketball participation? Non-refutable data from the NFHS says that participation has dropped 21% over the last 25 years. But why? What is your take on the why when the highest levels of the sport have never been more popular.
