@DrunkRepub The Great Depression was followed by rapid economic growth that fueled a baby boom and a spike in marriage. Gen Z doesn’t see that on their horizon and that has to be devastating. Why attack them over it?

Gen Z is always bitching about how they can’t afford anything and I get it. They kinda got screwed. But every generation has its own downsides. My grandparents grew up during the f***ing Great Depression! I’m a Gen X kid. My dad taught me how to ride a bike by holding the seat at the top of a hill with sticker bushes at the bottom and said “when you turn away before the sticker bush you’ll be riding your bike.” He’d let go and face first I’d go into the bushes. Took 6 or 7 tries before I dodged them. No helmet, no nothing. Just pain. And in college we didn’t have DoorDash; we had to put on clothes, walk out into the elements, and actually drive to Wendy’s. HUNGOVER! Point is I agree you guys got screwed, but feeling sorry for yourself won’t fix anything. Time to put on your big boy pants and roll with the punches. Yes life isn’t fair, but at least you aren’t storming the beaches of Normandy. I mean in real life, not on Call of Duty.

I am a Democrat. I served in the Clinton administration. I did not vote for Donald Trump and am highly unlikely to support him or his acolytes in the future. I also have serious disagreements with many of the Trump administration’s domestic and foreign policies. But it is profoundly disturbing that a growing segment of the far left appears to be almost rooting for Hamas, Hezbollah, the Iranian regime, and other forces fundamentally opposed to the United States and our allies. This seems to reflects a corrosive strain of anti-Americanism, dressed up in postcolonial theory, that risks blinding us to the moral realities of our world and the nature of our adversaries.

@antoniospiezia Montrealers love to complain about the city, but the quality of life in Montreal is incredibly good. Great for 20 somethings...family friendly...even in the dead of winter. There is a reason my kids came here for uni and then stayed.

The Montreal Renaissance is real. The Habs are ridiculously good. The Expos spark is back. The food scene is booming. The coffee culture is top tier. The bagels...never better. The tech ecosystem is bouncing back. The animation scene is back (just won an Oscar) The history, unmatched. Bullish on this city.🚧

@TLNewmanMTL La Lune has been talked about a lot since even before it opened because of the ownership - it has quite a pedigree. I've heard it is very good though I haven't been.

@JackChambersGB The odd part is there is little to no foot traffic on the streets of downtown San Antonio. So Riverwalk feels more like part of a Disney theme park than part of the downtown of a major US city.

@gingerdadman1 If I ever asked my mom for a cereal, she would buy several boxes if they were on sale and then refuse to buy any other cereal until we finished what we had. I still shake uncontrollably when I see Rice Krispies. 😂

Every public high school in America should be teaching how credit cards work, how to get a mortgage, and what mutual funds are and how they function. 16th century English literature is great, but how about equipping our children with what they need in the REAL world.

When did youth baseball get so serious? Exit velo. Radar guns. Rankings. Travel teams at 8 years old. What happened to just playing because it’s the greatest game ever invented? Sometimes it feels like we all forget it’s still a kid’s game. ⚾️

@TS_Secrets Ours was more around "will we need a car" plus how long would the drive be. My limit was probably around 14 hours....sort of what I could do in a single day.

Serious question for families… How many hours do you drive before you just fly? We drove 16 hours yesterday and I’m absolutely exhausted. Halfway through I was thinking: “Why didn’t we just book the flights?” My rule has always been: If it’s under 8 hours we drive. If it’s over 8 hours we fly. But flights for a family aren’t cheap and the TSA Deal worried me, so sometimes the road trip wins. The math in my head usually looks like this: Drive: • Gas 4 times • Snacks • A hotel sometimes • 2 full days of travel Fly: • Expensive tickets • Airport chaos • Rental car But you arrive in a few hours instead of two days. Yesterday reminded me… 16 hours in a car with kids feels like 40. Curious where everyone draws the line. What’s your rule? How many hours before you stop driving and start flying?

On a flight and there’s a kid who’s been screaming for the last 15 minutes. Lots of passengers making faces at the parents. Before you do that, just remember, the parents are having a 100x worse time than you are. Guaranteed. Put in some headphones and relax.

@allie__voss We always made our living room the “family room” - television and table for playing board games. The family room was redundant.

One thing we noticed while house hunting is how few of the new builds had dining rooms We definitely use ours at holidays and when hosting, but it does seem to be one of those things that's a waste of space day to day for most people
systemlayers@systemlayers

@drvolts A few years ago UCLA did a study on room usage. I often think about how useless a porch/dining room is. Why hasn't there been more innovation around how people ACTUALLY use their space in their homes? wsj.com/articles/SB100…
