Dennis Ritchie created C in the early 1970s without Google, Stack Overflow, GitHub, or any AI ( Claude, Cursor, Codex) assistant.
- No VC funding.
- No viral launch.
- No TED talk.
- Just two engineers at Bell Labs. A terminal. And a problem to solve.
He built a language that fit in kilobytes.
50 years later, it runs everything.
Linux kernel. Windows. macOS.
Every iPhone. Every Android.
NASA’s deep space probes.
The International Space Station.
> Python borrowed from it.
> Java borrowed from it.
> JavaScript borrowed from it.
If you have ever written a single line of code in any language, you did it in Dennis Ritchie’s shadow.
He died in 2011.
The same week as Steve Jobs.
Jobs got the front pages.
Ritchie got silence.
This Legend deserves to be celebrated.

"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails. They're trying to change our habits, because all of the projections rely on people becoming truly dependent on the technology. Whether or not it's actually a good thing for society isn't considered to be a factor."

OpenAI is a loss-making monster, with new analysis that projects even IF it can hit $200bn revenue by 2030, it'll still need over $200bn in funding just to stay afloat. Platforms are increasingly turning to debt to keep this gravy train going ... windowscentral.com/artificial-int… 👇

I've mentioned this before, but I'd like to state for the record , that spending 60 BTC on the Silk Road for a bag of weed, was absolutely the best decision of my life.
.......But, but, but Von, that's over 6 million dollars today, I sure hope that was great weed!
Well, in fact it was very nice, I believe the strain was called Vortex, but that isn't the point. Using BTC in that way give me proof of concept that nothing else could have. It gave me the ability to own the asset with the confidence to know it was something different.
While my original reason to buy BTC was that the world needed a digital cash alternative, the proof of concept came in a way I couldn't have imagined.
Thank you Satoshi Nakamoto, who ever you are, you changed my life in many ways.

I just became a victim of cybercrime. All of my wallets were compromised, and my life savings, everything I earned as an artist in Web3 are gone. This happened during a 14-hour flight from Korea to New York, coincidentally in mid-flight when I had no internet access. I have no idea how it happened, but my best guess is a seed phrase leak.
I had a photo of my handwritten seed phrase (not digital) synced to Google Drive, hidden in a random folder, but there’s no sign of any suspicious login activity. It could also have been a leak from the physical paper, but I’m not sure. Public WiFi? Maybe. Malware? I’m pretty sure I didn’t download anything, at least not knowingly. I haven’t had any interactions with suspicious individuals lately either.
The strange part is that only my funds were taken while all of my NFTs remained untouched. I’ve already started moving my valuable NFTs to a new, secure wallet. I’m left with nothing now, and this is probably the biggest challenge of my life. My biggest concern is that all my family members rely on me financially, so I need to bounce back as quickly as possible to continue supporting them.
Right now, my mind is exhausted and I need to get some sleep first.

OpenSea has received a Wells notice from the SEC threatening to sue us because they believe NFTs on our platform are securities.
We're shocked the SEC would make such a sweeping move against creators and artists. But we're ready to stand up and fight.
Cryptocurrencies have long been in the crosshairs of the SEC, and companies like @coinbase, @Uniswap, @RobinhoodApp, @krakenfx, and @Consensys have been fighting against the SEC's single-track approach of "regulation by enforcement."
But this is a move into uncharted territory. By targeting NFTs, the SEC would stifle innovation on an even broader scale: hundreds of thousands of online artists and creatives are at risk, and many do not have the resources to defend themselves.
NFTs are fundamentally creative goods: art, collectibles, video game items, domain names, event tickets, and more.
We should not regulate digital art in the same way we regulate collateralized debt obligations.
As we've built OpenSea, we've heard so many stories about the impact of NFTs on people’s lives, including:
• Student artists finding full-time careers in selling their digital art
• Indie game developers instantly enabling open markets for their in-game items, without having to build marketplaces from scratch
• Passionate collectors from different corners of the world joining new communities, all centered around shared digital ownership
It would be a terrible outcome if creators stopped making digital art because of regulatory saber-rattling. Take, for example, the suit filed against the SEC by the musician @songadaymann and conceptual artist @brianlfrye, which describes their fear that the sale of their art and music could be deemed unregistered securities offerings.
In addition to standing our own ground, we're pledging $5M to help cover legal fees for NFT creators and devs that receive a Wells notice. Every creator, big or small, should be able to innovate without fear.
I hope the SEC will come to its senses sooner rather than later, and that they'll listen with an open mind.
Until then, we'll stand up and fight for our industry.
Onwards 🌊⛵️

The story behind the art:
This was a meta-live-performance digital art piece and so fulfilling to create and mint early days on @SuperRare
Images taken in-person during Edward Snowden's live stream at Bitcoin 2019 Conference in San Francisco, CA. Inspired by his words and actions including how he used BTC to pay for servers used for NSA leak.
I got chills watching that live and I got those same chills when I heard this art found a new home. Heavy feels on this artwork.
