@NeastWS @janecoaston The 4 hour marathoners rate of perceived effort might be the same, but they just are not as close to their absolute physical limits. They are using different energy systems etc - essentially running a different race

@NeastWS @janecoaston I did read that, but the thing is the physiological adaptions from training mean that the capacity of those running faster to be near thresholds is higher. That is a 4 hour marathoner will likely not be at as high a percentage of their max heart rate or as close to their LT1

most people cannot run a ten minute mile. if you can, it would take you about four and a half hours to run a marathon. that is an AMAZING athletic feat.

@janecoaston Distance runners in general don't get anywhere near the respect they deserve. With sprinters, most people intuitively understand that they could not, in their dreams run as fast as them. But they see a distance runner run some time and think "I could approximate that."

@davidemccune @janecoaston Correct. I have run a sub 3 hour marathon and a 5:20 mile. He was running 68 second 400m splits on average which I may be able to do once (on a good day). His fastest mile was 4:12 (deep in the race) which would be 62 second 400ms. There is no chance I could do that

@janecoaston From what I can gather, about 1-2% of US adults could march that pace _for a single lap_.

what gets me is that this means he can stay in zone 3 while running at that pace. like, he can keep a heart rate of 155-160 while running 4:30 repeats for two hours.
Ev@EvanMadders

@janecoaston I am a pretty damn good runner compared to the average person, when I started running I ran a 5k in 30 minutes, after years of work I can run a 5k in 21:05 Sawe just AVERAGED a 14:10 5k.

@janecoaston Not necessarily. A lot of elites push into zone 4 for a marathon. They just have an incredible ability to maintain a stupidly high level of effort.

@NeastWS @janecoaston For completeness, anyone running a marathon or trying their hardest is impressive and I don’t want to denigrate anyone’s achievements. It was just when you said running slowly is more impressive that I just wanted to point out that it is not.

@NeastWS @janecoaston Because anyone who ran faster than that time could also have run the slower time.

@janecoaston some people get mad when you say "it's more impressive to run a marathon at 10m/mile than 7m/mile given that both people are running at their max capacity" but i think it's basically true

@SenFettermanPA @PatrickRuffini Just fuck right off. You have consistently the worst takes ever. The only illegality of the White House ballroom was a failure of congressional approval. As a member of Congress you can fix that. So this is just pure stupid performance

We were there front and center. That venue wasn’t built to accommodate an event with the line of succession for the U.S. government. After witnessing last night, drop the TDS and build the White House ballroom for events exactly like these.

@BonillaJL i write about pants for a living and have had editors do this with articles. it's pretty common to have two, sometimes three, different headlines already queued up before the article goes live, so the publication can see which performs best.

It's wild that he is still allowed on the air after all of that. But he's also shameless about his lack of credibility and his employers care more about rage bait. ONLY in Washington can someone lose every campaign they ever touch as a practitioner, switch parties, monetize your exit by hugging the progressive left, carry water for the Dem WH/Re-elect as a surrogate, ultimately toss them under the bus too .... AND STILL BE CONSIDERED an "analyst" or "expert" worth paying to put on TV. If you need an explainer why linear cable is dying and no one trusts the media.... look no further than that guy

This is actually wild. lmao
