Why would you run to lose just give the impression of a contest. Only an idiot would run in those circumstance.

BREAKING: Darren Jones tells @BethRigby in an exclusive interview that he will NOT be running to be the next Labour leader and PM He says he was 'never planning or organising a leadership campaign like some of my colleagues' and despite insisting he had the numbers to run, sought reassurances from Burnham on economic plans and believes traders 'can be content' Full interview here⬇️ news.sky.com/video/darren-j…

@theideareview @JPMcQu @bmay Who told you that the public does not want Keir Starmer? The media. I am a member of the public as many others who wanted him to be PM.

My strong gut feeling is that the Labour Party is having a very excited, almost delirious conversation with itself that will completely fail to connect with the vast majority of the country beyond some parts of northern England.

@theideareview @anglofuturist No, because you could pay me £200k per year and tickle my scrotum every morning and I would still choose the centuries of infrastructure and cultural interest in London over living in Newport. Maybe we should build more housing in London and kick out zone 1-4 social tenants.

Predictable. His ambition was never decentralisation, but simply centralisation somewhere else. This isn’t what a PM for the whole of the UK would propose and it’s hard to see what benefits this would bring to places that are genuinely ‘left behind’.

FT exclusive: Andy Burnham is looking to set up a 'Number 10 in the north', moving part of his prime ministerial operation to Manchester, in a radical attempt to shift power beyond Westminster ft.trib.al/RfP4Mfr

@theideareview @anglofuturist It's a grim shithole that no young or ambitious person would choose to move to. Very few young ambitious people are lined up to move to Newport and Wigan for government work because they are both shit places to live.

@anglofuturist I've only ever seen Newport on the train to elsewhere, but looks fine to me! Anyway, Newport isnt the only option

@ArchieHall What stuck out for me is that old video where he says his first overseas visit will be to Israel. New boss same as the old boss.

@anglofuturist He doesn't have mandate of any kind. I think he's already accepted that he can't do PR without going to the country first.

@t848m0 @dylan04gla @boyfailbstrivin @anglofuturist thdhmo, thats a good observation. But the tories have been banging on about a british bill of rights for more than 10 years now. Reason we told them to get lost was because we know it'd mean less/weakened rights in certain areas. AB can do a different (better) one.

@dylan04gla @boyfailbstrivin @anglofuturist I think the only chance you could stand it up is with a thumping referendum mandate, you need to embed it as a genuine social consensus - and that seems almost impossible to imagine for any likely constitution they’d propose.

Now imagine if Burnham removed the whip from Keir Starmer and called his government 'morally bankrupt'.

I don't see any of Keir Starmer's cabinet turning down a role in Burnham's cabinet. Lammy, Reeves and Jones are all clearly angling for positions.

I will continue to die on the hill marked "it would be completely mad for a PM with 400 seats and 3 years left in a government term to call an early election which is all but certain to weaken his party." arguably.uk/p/dont-be-a-bo…

@CraigRMitchell Yes, in my view that's exactly right. Mbatang argues that Brown took a hit because he didn't go early. All the accounts of that period make clear that's not right: he took a hit because he marched everyone up the hill and then down again.
