Sea lions cannot be an invasive species within their own natural range
That indigenous members have convinced themselves they need to compromise because โdam removal is unrealisticโ, even though the Oregon tribes just successfully got the Klamath river dams removed, is sad to see

@ostonox Daniel Evans, who was one of the greatest governors of our state and is remembered for his conservation advocacy, was a strong supporter of the dams. The dams were built as a new deal project under FDR.
Tearing them down would make energy unaffordable and destroy the economy

@ostonox inb4 โwhat about duh dams,โ itโs not a realistic option. At all. Our energy is created by the dams and are agricultural sector relies on it. Any party that goes after the dams would be crushed, even the Democrats! Itโs one of the reason Jay Inslee was so unpopular.

The Klamath Dam removal led to faster than expected salmon recovery and instead of looking at that and seeing how it applies to her state's situation this braindead jackass said "lets kill sea lions"

Itโs been funny (โfunnyโ) watching this issue take on left-right valence when sea lions have been a problem for as long as I can remember. Folks really will get mad about something they know nothing about.

@ellis_kap @PEWilliams_ Yes. As someone actually from this part of the country, this is a major issue that needs to be dealt with. The sea lions are invasive. Itโs a little similar to the Carp situation thatโs going on in the Great Lakes.

It's actually kind of virtuous for MGP to take the heat on this issue. It's the tribes who are demanding the sea lion hunts, but everyone is getting mad at her instead of them.

I know people love to rag on MGP, but it's literally the indigenous tribes of the pacific northwest who are asking for this. The tribes have been managing the sea lion population, and now have gone to their congresswoman for more funding. Is she supposed to tell them no?

We have too damn many sea lions eating too many salmon at the mouth of the Columbia River. Taxpayers in Washington state are tired of spending so much money to protect salmon when a simple part of the solution is staring us in the face - shoot, trap and kill sea lions to reduce their number to the historically appropriate level. Stop letting environmental extremists and layers of bureaucracy get in the way of common sense. Kill๐More๐Sea lions๐ Save๐More๐Salmon๐
