A line of storms is forming in southwest Michigan as expected and moving east. Severe weather in the form of damaging winds to 60mph will be the main concern over the next 1-3 hours as this line continues across southern Michigan. The large hail threat is a secondary concern, followed by a very low risk for a tornado. The window for severe weather will be between now and about midnight. Storm fuel will be on the downtrend, so this line should weaken gradually with time and the loss of daytime heating. - 9:10pm ET - 5/4/26

We’re unsure if there are structures involved, or just wildfire related (or both), but this was speculated to be started by a downed power line from high winds. 📢 Attention West Black Lake Residents 📢 Flooding has caused a significant road washout in the area of South Black River Rd near Red Bridge Rd. Please avoid the area to allow the Cheboygan County Road Commission to safely manage the situation. South Black River Rd is closed from Maxon Rd to Mann Rd until further notice. Residents with homes north of the washout can still access their property from North Black River Rd by using Mann Rd or Zolner Rd. Cheboygan County Emergency Management is encouraging residents between Zolner Rd. and the washout to self-evacuate immediately due to the increased risk of further washouts causing the occupants to become stranded. People accessing the area may be asked to provide address verification. First responders are currently contacting affected residents. If residents self-evacuate, they should hang a piece of fabric on the door to signify to first responders that you are safe and have left voluntarily. 🚨Sirens are sounding at the Croton Dam this afternoon as water levels continue to rise, prompting downstream evacuation orders to be issued. Again, if you live in the floodplain of the Muskegon River downstream of the Croton Dam, you NEED to be evacuating right NOW!

Cheboygan Dam Update 04/16/2026 at 10:20am The Cheboygan Dam Area, and north of Cheboygan Dam is moving to the Level 2 “Set” stage of the Ready, Set, Go model. This indicates the water level is below 6” of topping the lowest point of the Cheboygan Dam Complex. Level 2 indicates a high probability of a need to evacuate. You should prepare now by packing necessary items and preparing your family, pets, and vehicle for potential departure. Remember the 6 P’s: plan, personal items, prescriptions, photographs, pets and papers. Please refer to the attached map for the evacuation area, highlighted in yellow.

Data is approximate, but if the dam in Hesperia were to fail soon, here are the areas most-likely to be impacted downstream. Maroon denotes higher impacts from flash flooding, while yellow denotes some impacts. If you know you live in the floodplain for the White River northeast of Whitehall, please keep an eye out for more information. A flash flood watch remains in effect for the White River in Oceana county through Thursday morning 4/16/2026. Time of post is 7 pm EDT 4/15/2026.

Water is beginning to hit the bridge on Maple Island Road in Hesperia, and the dam just upstream is at risk of failing due to high water levels. A flash flood watch remains in effect for downstream areas of the White River.

The Hesperia Dam may fail at any time, and residents along the downstream portions of the White River should remain alert and consider evacuating. 📸Austin S.

Bellaire Dam officials have found a seepage at the base of Bellaire Dam and are warning residents who live directly downstream to have an evacuation plan as water levels continue to rise. Due to high water levels and continued rain in the forecast, officials of the Bellaire Dam will be monitoring conditions continuously through the evening and overnight.
