Every year, children lose their lives in hot cars, and in 1 in 4 cases, they got in on their own and couldn’t get back out. On National Heatstroke Prevention Day, we’re reminding parents of tips to prevent these tragedies: • Always lock your vehicle, even at home • Keep keys and fobs out of children’s reach • Teach kids that cars are not play areas A parked car can heat up quickly, even on mild days. A few simple habits can save a life.

METRO NORTH POST ACTIVITY: On 04/12/26, troopers were dispatched to a breaking and entering complaint of a church in Bruce Township, Macomb County. Investigation revealed a suspect forced entry into the church and stole a Mini Mac Apple computer and leaf blower. Troopers processed the scene and located security camera video footage showing a suspect and suspect vehicle. Troopers were then contacted by the Almont Police Department who were investigating a separate larceny in their jurisdiction with a similar suspect and suspect vehicle. Further collaboration confirmed it was the same suspect and vehicle for both crimes, who was identified as a 33-year-old male from Shelby Township. On 04/30/26, troopers and Almont Police executed a search warrant on a residence in Shelby Township and were able to locate stolen property from both incidents as well as a stolen pistol (Sccy CPX-2 9mm pistol) hidden in the basement ceiling. The suspect was already in-custody by Shelby Township Police on unrelated charges. A investigators report will be submitted to the prosecutors office for review. “We know that criminals often cross jurisdictional boundaries.” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “This was great work by troopers and Almont officers to determine this suspect had committed several crimes and also recover key evidence. Great work by all.”

Texting while driving is illegal in Michigan, but it’s not the only distraction. Eating, fixing your hair, or changing music are too. When you drive, just drive. Turn on “Do Not Disturb” or put your phone away until you arrive. #StaySafe @MIOHSP michigan.gov/DistractedDriv…

Great work by Brighton Post Troopers. On Wednesday, April 22, at approximately 11:12 a.m., troopers from the Brighton Post conducted a traffic stop on a 2017 Ford Fusion for speeding on Grove St. near Spring St. in Ypsilanti. Troopers made contact with the driver, a 21-year-old male from Ypsilanti. During the stop, the driver informed troopers that he had a firearm in the vehicle and did not possess a valid concealed pistol license. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of an Anderson AM-15 semi-automatic rifle-style pistol, two 30-round magazines, and an extended barrel attachment. Troopers also located open intoxicants inside the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody and lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail.
