Arnold Schwarzenegger with his older brother Meinhard, 1967. Meinhard, died in a car crash on May 20, 1971. He was driving drunk and died instantly. Arnold did not attend his funeral. Both were raised in the small Austrian village of Thal, near Graz, by their strict father Gustav, a local police chief and veteran of World War II. Arnold and Meinhard shared a love of sports, discipline, and competition, but their temperaments were different.
