Durham Police Investigate Homicide After Break-And-Enter At Ajax Home A man has died following a violent incident at a residence in north Ajax, marking Durham Region’s second homicide of 2026. According to police, members of West Division responded shortly after 12:40 AM on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, to a report of a break-and-enter in progress in the area of Harwood Avenue North and Taunton Road East. When officers arrived, they located an adult male inside the home suffering from traumatic injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say two suspects fled before police arrived. A search of the surrounding area was conducted with assistance from the Durham Regional Police K9 Unit, but the suspects were not located. Police say residents in the area can expect an increased presence as the investigation continues. Investigators believe the incident was targeted and say there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The case has been taken over by the Homicide Unit of the Durham Regional Police Service. Officers are asking anyone who was in the area between midnight and 2 a.m. and who may have dashcam, cellphone, or surveillance footage or any information to contact police.
