Ihan kiva, että sovellukset kehittyvät, mutta jatkuva muutos aiheuttaa myös kognitiivista kuormitusta ja stressiä. #Copilot Excelissä tänään.

Mainos-TV:n kuolonkorinaa? Uutisista on ollut mielenkiintoista lukea, että tästä päivästä alkaen ilmeisesti MTV:n kanavat eivät näy niissä kotitalouksissa, joissa on Elisan kaapeliverkko. Aika harvoin yritysten väliset sopimuskiistat näkyvät kuluttajille näin konkreettisesti. Tietämättä tarkemminin yksityiskohtia Elisa vaikuttaa tässä olevan selvästi vahvemmalla. Ihan jos katsoo heidän perusbisneksen kannattavuutta verrattuna maikkariin. Jäin itse miettimään, että mitähän MTV:ltä mainostilaa ostaneet ajattelevat tästä. Yhtäkkiä kattavuus putoaakin lähes kolmasosalla 🤔

Valtio käyttää kaksi vuotta yksinkertaiseen droonihälytyssovellukseen, suomalainen tekoäly-yritys teki saman viikonlopussa Helsinkiläinen Taiga tuotti yhden viikonlopun aikana täydellisen, tuotantotason toteutuspaketin droonihälytyssovellukselle Taiga on valmis luovuttamaan koko toteutuspaketin Suomen valtiolle pro bono, mikäli valtio katsoo siitä olevan hyötyä. Tähän sisältyy myös Taiga-alustan käyttöoikeus paketin viimeistelyä ja toteutusta varten. "Suurin tavoite on kuitenkin herättää keskustelua, jotta Suomessa tehdään oikeita ratkaisuja tänään, eikä vasta 1–2 vuoden päästä" sttinfo.fi/tiedote/719571…

Breaking: AWS just killed a 20-year headache by making S3 a file system. S3 launched in 2006. Since then, every team building on AWS had to choose: object storage (cheap, scalable, S3) or file system (flexible, fast, EFS/EBS). You couldn't have both. > So you copied data. > You built sync pipelines. > You duplicated storage. > You wrote custom glue code just to make your apps talk to your own data. That overhead was the tax every DevOps and ML team paid. Every single day. Yesterday, AWS shipped S3 Files. Now you can access the S3 bucket as a file system. It supports up to 25,000 simultaneous connections from EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, and Fargate, all reading and writing to the same bucket in real time. AWS connected EFS directly to S3 now For MLOps: run training jobs directly against data in S3 without copying it to a separate file system first (Less headache) For AI agents: mount any S3 bucket directly into an agent's local environment with a single command. Multiple agents share state using standard file conventions, subdirectories, notes files, and shared project directories. AWS claims up to 90% lower costs compared to cycling data between S3 and separate file systems. What do you think about this update?

The guy who helped build React, the most popular workaround for the browser's layout engine, just said the workaround isn't sufficient and built the replacement himself. Cheng Lou's resume is the context that makes this announcement hit different. He worked on React at Facebook. Created ReasonML and ReScript. Built Messenger's frontend. Now runs Midjourney's entire UI stack on Bun. Every single role was a fight against the same enemy: the browser's rendering pipeline. Here's why this matters beyond the engineering flex. The web was built to render documents. Static HTML, flowing text, pages you scroll through. CSS layout was designed for that world. Then we started building applications inside the document renderer: spreadsheets, design tools, messaging apps, AI chat interfaces. Every one of those applications has to ask the browser permission to know how big text is. That question triggers reflow. Reflow locks the main thread. At 60fps you get 16 milliseconds per frame. Spend those milliseconds on layout recalculation and the user sees jank. The industry's answer for the last decade has been to work around the problem. Virtual DOM (React) batches the writes. CSS containment limits the blast radius. content-visibility skips offscreen layout. FastDOM separates reads from writes. Every solution accepts that the browser owns text measurement and tries to call it less often. Cheng Lou's answer: stop calling it at all. Measure text in pure TypeScript. Skip the DOM. Skip CSS. Skip reflow entirely. Zero layout passes. The performance improvement, per his demo, is categorical. 0.05ms versus 30ms. Zero reflows versus five hundred. The person who understands the browser rendering pipeline better than almost anyone alive just built the tool that makes part of it unnecessary. That tells you where application-grade UI is heading.
Cheng Lou@_chenglou

My dear front-end developers (and anyone who’s interested in the future of interfaces): I have crawled through depths of hell to bring you, for the foreseeable years, one of the more important foundational pieces of UI engineering (if not in implementation then certainly at least in concept): Fast, accurate and comprehensive userland text measurement algorithm in pure TypeScript, usable for laying out entire web pages without CSS, bypassing DOM measurements and reflow

AWS has a service called Systems Manager Parameter Store for storing parameters. There's also Secrets Manager for storing secrets. And AppConfig for storing configs. The only consistent thing is the number of ways to store the same string.
