My children were craving mortadella so much.
Yesterday, I managed to buy them just a small piece, even though it was expensive for me.
Today, I opened it and made them sandwiches for breakfast.
After a few hours, they asked me again, “Mama, can you make us more?”
When I opened the bag… I saw strange white spots on it.
I tried to remove the outer part, thinking maybe it was nothing.
But later… I found it completely spoiled.
My children had already eaten from it.
And I stood there… not knowing what to do, not knowing if it harmed them.
Even the little food we struggle to afford…
turns out to be unsafe.
I paid for it with everything I had…
and still couldn’t give my children something clean to eat.
This is our reality.

I like the kind-hearted thinking behind this but I am concerned that there are mounting reports of dogs being poisoned around the world. Unfortunately, strays around the world are being targeted and I am concerned the feeders would be contaminated with a poison of some sort. 😢

Over 500 sukumbasi families have come into contact with authorities for screening (on whether they are real or fake sukumbasis), many are also looking for shelter. It is the responsibility of Nepal government and local governments to take care of them until such time that they are properly vetted. With 3 major illegal settlements in Kathmandu valley now destroyed, I think the government needs to settle these people first before moving into other illegal settlements. We don't want a situation where Nepal government isn't able to provide them basic shelter.
