What is good?—Whatever augments the feeling of power, the will to power, power itself, in man. What is evil?—Whatever springs from weakness. What is happiness?—The feeling that power increases—that resistance is overcome.

@CRIsilver1027 @FilmUpdates Craig looked ancient in his last two movies. The crows feet were distracting. He was closer to retirement age than 37 (canonical age for Fleming's Bond) in his final movie.

Casting director Nina Gold says the next James Bond actor she’s looking for must "ooze sex appeal." He should also "be young enough to play him in three or four, or more pictures." (deadline.com/2026/05/the-ne…)

One of Ingmar's worst movies. Ingrid is so bad in it, she manages to make Ullmann look terrible too. Thankfully, Ingmar released Fanny And Alexander a few years later, otherwise Autumn Sonata would've been the last big film he made. x.com/cinemafrances/…
hirai@cinemafrances

Na produção de Sonata de Outono os Bergman (que NÃO SÃO parentes) não se bicaram, não concordavam em NADA a respeito da representação da figura da mãe... e isso resultou num filmasso... simplesmente um dos melhores do cinema.

@notherPllanet @mise_en_seer Politics. The 50s (and 80s) were considered culturally conservative decades in America, so the status quo cultural products have been attacked by leftist film critics ever since.

@mise_en_seer I'm trying to figure out what could possibly make someone think that. She likes old hollywood, so it's not too old-fashioned. 50s Hwood might be less stylized than earlier decades or veering more towards naturalism? 30s and 40s movies have a very snappy style of dialog.

@MetricReject @Crime_Penguin It's *really* nicely shot and constructed. The director (Peter Hunt) was the editor for all of the Connery Bond movies and got his start on the editing team for some of Powell & Pressburger's best movies. So he understood how to put a film together.

@MetricReject @Crime_Penguin OHMSS is a really good late 60s action movie. Has some great set pieces and the action direction + editing is a decade ahead of its time. And like you said, an excellent score. But maybe doesn't work as well as a "Bond movie" especially when compared with the later Connery films.

@Crime_Penguin OHMSS is a bizarre and almost unwatchable mess. I don't think any hypothetical casting could have saved it without accompanying massive rewrites/reshoots. Great film score though. Love that early Moog sound.

@Lodge_73 @escapefrommelos There is nothing inherently wrong with people like this. 200yrs ago they would've been homsteading on some treacherous new world frontier, or working as agents for the East India Company. But there are very few productive places to put this type of energy today.

@escapefrommelos Same with rock climbers or cave spelunkers. I see videos of them and I'm just like, dude you could be home on your couch right now, what are you even doing, what happened in your brain to make you do this.

@smugdiogenes @Landseaandtext @Crime_Penguin Bond is one of the largest grossing franchises of all time and has been handled like a massive action blockbusters since Brosnan. Unlikely that Amazon would risk doing something weird like a 2 movie run then have to go through the process of casting a new Bond again.

@owroot Current models are still quite bad at handling highlights. Subtle to the layperson, but very obvious if you have any sort of photography/pprod background. Look at the movement of the light in her eyes and at the highlights on her necklace.

@big_boy_berto It has the same metering system as the F3 right? Famously good gen of Nikons. I have an F2 which looks sick but not so intuitive to operate when you're used to the more modern Nikon SLRs.

@big_boy_berto Nice. Nikon really nailed design in the period. SLRs have never looked better.

@marc__adler @vashikoo Most people can perceive a difference if you place the images side by side (and they lean towards a preference for film ime). For certain types of movie I think it's still worth the effort to shoot film. But digital continues to improve drastically.

@0xProcession @vashikoo I mean from the perspective of the average moviegoer. Do they really perceive the experience as "less" because the highlights don't bloom?
