Market rate for Aaron Gordon - who I think is a pretty good comparison for what Ausar brings to the table - was 30m aav.
Other "Wings with something to prove" like TM3 and Jaden McDaniels were 25m ish.
What Ausar is doing, right now, is probably worth 27-32.

Listening to todays pistons pulse with @omarisankofa and @MotorCityHoops A point of contention, which Omari mentioned very briefly but I’ll push heavier on, is that I don’t think Ausar being paid 30-33 million AAV is betting on him improving on offense. I think Ausar as of May 25th, 2026 is worth 30+ million dollars. If he IMPROVES offensively, you’re not talking about “oh he’s worth the contract now” it’s very much like Omari briefly mentioned “oh shit you might have the best value contract in the entire NBA.” Ausar taking a step offensively next season launches him into different tax brackets that the Pistons desperately want to avoid

@therealwesd3 Yeah, and EYE, am not comfortable paying that. I also am not in charge of that decision (thankfully.) Personally, I wouldn’t want to go a dime over 35m and even then I don’t want to do it. I am of the belief that you don’t pay centers huge money unless they are elite.

#Pistons have $72 million in first apron space going into the offseason. Extend Duren 5/$135 mill and Ausar 4/$110 mill. AT would still be on $11 mill next year. That leaves $45 million in space before the first apron. Detroit could retain their guys and still make a splash.
