#Pistons have $72 million in first apron space going into the offseason. Extend Duren 5/$135 mill and Ausar 4/$110 mill. AT would still be on $11 mill next year. That leaves $45 million in space before the first apron. Detroit could retain their guys and still make a splash.

@cjoe1103 I think a lot of people are going to be surprised on the deal Duren takes from Detroit, unless a team like Chicago drives the number up. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong and will accept it

@DetxLA31 Mid level for Detroit is closer to $15 million this offseason

@edchungDC Correct, but larger contracts (Robinson, Levert, Stewart) can be moved and the money coming back can be absorbed into apron space. Those three combine for $45 million.

@JRogersPOP To sign outside FAs, what matters is salary cap space, not first apron. Their max cap space is $30m + the room exception if they renounce all their cap holds (incl. Tobi + JD). If you want to re-sign Duren, you have to keep the $19m cap hold which gives you only $11m in space

Detroit also has an $8.6 million exception that they can use to absorb a contract into via trade.

Pistons fans loved me when I called them the Bright Future Pistons a few years ago (and I was right) Pistons fans hate me now that I've been concerned all year about their playoff hopes (and I was right) I don't think the trade deadline strategy was good. I hope I'm wrong about this summer. I'd love to see Detroit become a contender and put the type of roster around Cade Cunningham that he deserves. Time will tell.

I can't believe the Pistons front office looked at this roster and really thought it'd be good enough to make a run.

considering their roster – a good one, but certainly not a 60-win group on paper – and that their three best players are still only 24, 23, and 22, it's safe to say the Pistons overachieved in the regular season. and that's exactly what you want! but it set a high bar, so their overall showing in the Playoffs felt underwhelming, and Sunday's G7 blowout loss was a major disappointment, even though most would agree the Cavs were the far more talented team. but if you zoom out and look at the big picture, this Pistons season – top seed in the East and one win away from the Conference Finals – was absolutely a success. they weren't supposed to be this good this soon, and while we can all agree they're missing a piece or two – namely another reliable scorer – they've got something special in the 313.

Was Duren disappointing in the playoffs? Without a doubt. But remember when you were hyping him up just a couple months ago? Saying he’s a top five center in the league? Not to mention a top-10 defender in the sport. There is no argument that this wasn’t a successful season.

Pistons eliminated in Game 7 at home. I think the comments about how awesome of a season this was will unfortunately have to wait. Going out like this is the worst end to a season imaginable. It’s going to sting for a really, really long time. For a team that made its brand on playing harder than anyone else, their identity was nowhere to be found tonight. A really pivotal offseason awaits, with a good pick in a great draft class to start.
