End of the day jersey retirements need a heavy emotional connection. I’m not a huge fan of retiring jerseys purely on skill alone.
Plus Vancouver has retired too many jerseys as is.

Bure opens up the argument for top level skill overcoming other shortcomings for a jersey retirement but I’d argue:
- no deep playoff run for Hughes
- was captain of generational locker room collapse
- didn’t have an intense connection to fan base

I'm voting yes. Needs 7 games. Would be an absolutely horrible look on the franchise to make the decision to keep him from an incredible milestone for any player. Foote said last week it's on his radar, so have to think that means Kane will reach 1000 here shortly
