@MattZeitlin @jbarro Not my district but Gounardes beating Golden was one of the biggest improvements I’ve seen
English

@jbarro General election, primaries are too easy to get excited about

I wrote about something I'm doing, but not very happily: voting for Kathy Hochul. I am far from alone -- her victory is likely to be delivered by voters like me. joshbarro.com/p/this-week-in…

@emilymbadger Might cut both ways though, at 6% you’d have thought the same thing but you could still save a lot by acting quickly… maybe still true

I know people like to point out that 7 percent mortgage rates are not *that* terrible historically. But there have been very few times in the last 50 years when they have risen this much, this quickly.

@normative She suffered very serious trauma while reporting in Egypt per Wikipedia, obviously not a diagnosis but seems like the kind of thing that could explain it

@tsuyvtlv @NabyAlcantara @AirmanSandoval @Phil_Lewis_ The generic term “Nazi” is not understood to include people like Schindler, it’s true. But he was a member of the Nazi Party.
English

@15c3PO @NabyAlcantara @AirmanSandoval @Phil_Lewis_ There's also a difference when talking about "Nazis" vs taking about "Oskar Schindler," hence the need to name him specifically and *why* his name is notable in the first place.

Parents are stunned by a school board candidate’s comments in an Indiana town:
“All Nazis weren't 'bad' as you specify. They did horrible things … Who is to say if we were both there in the same place and time, that we wouldn't have done the same thing” wthr.com/article/news/e…
English

@AirmanSandoval @Phil_Lewis_ Haha yeah, there was some good nazis, good people on both sides

@tomgara @JackieJonez Battery Park City has this feeling a bit, but it’s definitely a lot less eerie than Hudson Yards

Some people may have concerns about a giant casino in Times Square. But on the other hand, the developers say revenue from the casino will fund a fleet of surveillance drones and facial recognition cameras capable of comprehensive surveillance of the area nytimes.com/2022/10/19/nyr…

@JakeAnbinder Oh haha, I read this as a marital union and I was like, oh no, Jake
English

@normative I think it’s fair to note that when libs do this kind of thing it’s greeted with jeers of “safe spaces!” from pretty much every corner of the right
English

@mattyglesias @JakeAnbinder @opinonhaver Original claim was about academics, presumably that’s the Econ department
English

@willystaley I thought the point was exactly this, and the kids’ absorption in 1950s tv means they intuitively understand that things used to be better
English

Maybe 75 percent of these kids’ caloric intake is coming from sugar, the pop charts are dominated by boy bands and Columbine is about to happen if it hasn’t already.
Wokal Distance@wokal_distance
This is a world worth fighting for, and the ache of the nostalgia we feel for this time is the call home.
