If you’ve checked my profile recently, Twitter might have said I haven’t tweeted yet. It’s a lie! A recent Twitter glitch stopped my profile from loading properly. So, to populate my profile timeline, here are some of my favorite moments in poasting—and replying—over the years:

@besttrousers An extremely famous A-list celebrity actually engaging with a user on here—instead of just promoting their latest shows/movies—is a fun throwback to the era when this platform was still officially called Twitter. (Another recent example: Ben Stiller replying to Armand.)

@questionableway My understanding is that once you cast your ballot (whether by scanning it or going through the touch screen process) there is no way to uncount it, because it is no longer linked to you—even if it later turns out you were actually ineligible to vote.

@captgouda24 It probably was, but I'm sure it was on the cusp of when that started to be formalized. I do not disagree with the HR policy.

The United lounge bartender, who is clearly some kind of NYC metro area Italian, heard his colleague open a champagne bottle and said “Opa!” and the nice elderly gentleman next to me said hopefully “you’re Greek?”

@_andyboardman @kpomerleau U.S. households with net wealth under $100 million (to use the Biden-Harris 2025 budget proposal) probably have at least $10 trillion in aggregate unrealized gains outside of those tax-advantaged vehicles, no?

@kpomerleau Beyond the top, households just don't have that much in unrealized gains outside of tax-advantaged vehicles (house; retirement, college, etc. accounts) relative to what the current tax base captures. Given liquidity/valuation challenges, makes sense to go where the $ is, no?

The proponents of these proposals lean on the consistency argument to say that appreciation is income, so billionaires should be taxed. But the proposals only apply to very high-income households for some reason. They don't seem willing to tax imputed rental income!
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

Separately, the idea of characterizing unrealized gains as "income" has never sat well with me — I don't think anyone is willing to actually apply that logic in a consistent way because it leads to some zany results.

when you look at the list of things the public is scared about re ai a lot of these are just easily addressable. fake videos and scam calls rank very highly. FCC can act there
