@CynicalPublius Also the same people that can't defend themselves, yet criticize us for how we defend ourselves.

These are the same people who will tell you you cannot shoot a home invader because the invader's life is worth more than your personal property.

@micyoung75 If you had a clue. You would know we don't have a "defense" secretary.

This is the part that keeps getting buried under the raw numbers.
Hegseth spent months pressuring Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to remove four decorated colonels from the one-star promotion list. Two Black men. Two women. Driscoll refused, because their records demanded it. So Hegseth pulled their names himself… which legal experts say he likely had no authority to do. The defense secretary is supposed to approve or reject the entire list, precisely to prevent this kind of targeted discrimination.
Then Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George - the Army’s top officer - asked to meet with Hegseth to discuss the blocked promotions. Hegseth refused to meet. Refused to discuss his decisions at all.
Then he fired George. Whose term wasn’t supposed to end until September 2027.
Nine U.S. officials across all four branches confirmed the NBC reporting. “There is not a single service that has been immune,” one said. The officers’ attributes being cited for removal include past support for Covid vaccine mandates… and association with Mark Milley.
The Pentagon’s response to every outlet that asked: “fake news.”
They didn’t dispute a single name.

@BernieSanders If it wasn't for democrats sending terrorists money. None of this would be necessary. Thanks for pulling your head out of your commie ass long enough to show us how stupid you are.

@JessicaTarlov Good thing you're here where he's protecting you huh.

No wonder the institutional thinktank libertarians have been counter-signaling anything remotely MAGA related without any concern about left-wing politics. Open Society got their hands on them.
Steven Greenhut, who wrote this article, is a "region director" for R Street Institute, a thinktank that is an explicit Open Society Foundations grantee. They have personnel overlap with Reason Foundation (which runs @reason).
So of course Reason spends more time worrying about the "authoritarianism" of targeting George Soros than about noncitizens voting in our elections.

This is why you can’t have libs running the military. What a horrible way to frame one of the most inspiring and sacrificial missions in the history of our military.

@ForgiatoBlow47 Just a wild guess but I bet the line for that job is getting pretty short.

@robinmonotti You are only humiliating your self. We were not only able to get him out. We blew up the shit we left behind.

@reason If "reason" is against it. It's just one more good "reason" we need it.

There is no voting crisis that demands federal intervention.

As an Iranian watching this rescue mission unfold, I was praying the American pilot would make it out alive, not just for him, but so the Islamic Republic could not use him as a bargaining chip or claim some twisted “victory.”
At the same time, I felt a deep envy.
Your government sent elite special forces, million-dollar aircraft, and moved heaven and earth to bring one American home. No hesitation. No excuses.
In Iran, the regime uses human shields and recruited child soldiers to clear minefields during the Iran-Iraq war. They treat their own people like disposable tools. They are now recruiting child soldiers as we speak.
The Islamic Republic has zero regard for human life. That’s the brutal difference.
One side risks everything to save their own.
The other sacrifices their own to stay in power.
This hits hard when you have lived under both realities.

@Microinteracti1 Because, we are a Christian nation. You should try it.🇺🇸

Retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling is not mincing words. The former Commanding General of US Army Europe says these generals were purged because they stood up against Pete Hegseth’s push to turn the US military into a Christian nationalist crusade.
Retired Army Maj. Gen. Randy Manner says dozens of chaplains who don’t share Hegseth’s views are being marginalized and excluded from staff meetings. The chaplain corps exists to serve all service members regardless of faith. That apparently made Green’s position untenable.
The Pope has now weighed in. Hegseth’s prayer for battlefield violence prompted a response from Rome: God does not listen to those who wage war in his name.
Hertling has seen enough. So have the troops.
