The far more important reality is this:
only the top category (1.8 and above) even approaches the replacement rate of 2.1. Everything else falls well below it.
Even in the best-case districts, fertility isn’t necessarily high enough to sustain the population.
That’s what makes it so horrifying.

This is such an important/forgotten point.
College football was built as a regional sport. The big goals were to beat your rival (good year assured), and win your conference (great year assured).
It was understood that a national championship was a fantasy requiring huge luck!
