The 2026 New York Mets are going to be FAR better than people think. Defense? In 2025 they were 21st out of 30. For 2026 they’ve added 2 GG winners up the middle. Pitching? McLean is a star in the making but they needed an ace. They went and got Freddy Peralta Offense? The floor is much higher due to adding guys with much lower K% like Bichette and Semien. The ceiling is through the roof on Luis Robert Jr. The change of scenery could be great for him. The Mets haven’t made the postseason in back to back years in a decade. They deserve a ton of credit for the new look team. Full convo here: youtu.be/M0pH8RfK9iE?si…

This is so legally flawed. The Alaska Packers case was about sailors already under contract who, stuck in remote Alaska, demanded more money for the exact same work they’d already promised to do. Classic “preexisting duty” problem: you can’t demand fresh payment for doing what you’re already legally bound to perform. That new promise was unenforceable. PSA’s situation is different. When you submit cards, you affirm their Terms of Service. Those terms explicitly state (in plain language) that if PSA determines your card’s fair market value exceeds the insured limit of the tier you chose, they can require payment for a higher tier… or return the card ungraded. That clause is baked into the original contract you accepted (I’ve read it numerous times). It’s not a mid-process rewrite like the Alaska Packers case, it’s actually just a contingency you agreed to upfront. No “new consideration” issue because there’s no modification of the deal at all. The mutual promises (your payment for their grading + insurance up to the chosen limit, with their right to adjust) were formed at submission. The business practice IMO sucks and is why I’ve been holding off on having many cards graded, but the contract law analysis doesn’t hold water.

@GivnerAriel BCH posted "proof" that the guy is an attorney with links and a name. A search of the Alabama attorney listing reveals the guy wrote this was admitted in 2022, worked as an ADA in Mobile County, and now is not practicing. His email address links to his TCG store on ebay.

@BBGreatMoments Smoltz bad obviously in the long run, but unlike many of these trades, the player received in return (Doyle Alexander) had a major impact on a division title.

"What if" Maurice Lucas had played with Larry Bird; what if Kevin McHale had played with Bill Walton. Are they interchangeable? Who would fare better?

@BosCardHunter @N00V0 You know these things are easily researched in a few clicks since every state has a list of licensed attorneys online. This guy is not a practicing attorney, which should be obvious since literally every attorney chiming in here finds this "analysis" laughably wrong.

@Mutt_18 To be clear, I shared an attorney’s opinion; not a court ruling. But it’s still an interesting argument worth discussing as the engagement is proving.

@WadeFink @BosCardHunter Well I guess we have a lawyer that apparently disagrees with another lawyer. Fun fact: if it weren’t for lawyers, the world wouldn’t need lawyers.

@BosCardHunter Just fyi. Lawyer here who spent many years at big law and you can google my current work. That is some of the worst analysis I’ve ever read. And I’ve read some really bad stuff.

@BenVerlander Hi Ben, you might be too polite to say it-- I will. This thread is contaminated with a lot of uneducated, ignorant, snarky baseball fan know-it-all-know-nothings. /s We know better about the Mets possibilities. :-)

@BenVerlander No doubt. But he’s a year older, an age when guys start to slow down and injuries pick up. Not doubting his considerable skills, just the ability to maintain that level. Would love to have egg on my face on this!

@BenVerlander This has aged so poorly, its comedy to read it now. But you know, some of us knew exactly what to expect in January when you wrote this nonsense.

Who’s the greatest defensive center fielder you ever saw? Not stats. Not highlights. What you felt watching them patrol the outfield. Drop a name.

@dkfdawg @NYMhistory Sad that Hennigan was pretty much toast at this point. Pitched a few games for Tidewater in '74 before retiring at age 28. A solid reliever for Cleveland with 14 saves in 1971. Known by card collectors mostly for having a very tough high number in the 1972 Topps set.

@NYMhistory With NY, Hennigan wasn’t able to recover and was shipped to the minors as Harry Parker assumed a greater role.
