@1971Smith @juliaisobela Doctors took the biggest pay cut following the financial crash. Doctors’ pay has not recovered. This action is to recover some more of that pay. It’s either that, or we lose some more of our mobile young doctors to Australia, where there skills are better valued.

@Dave__Chambers @juliaisobela These strikes are mainly to do with pay. That’s all we hear. 2008 pay not the same as now. It’s greedy after a 30% pay increase. So it must be a game for the Unions.

@1971Smith @juliaisobela It’s not a game. Either the UK needs more specialists, or it doesn’t. If it does, then it needs additional training places. Training places are part of workforce planning (something this government has failed to do), not pay negotiations.

@TheOnlyRobmdk That money always goes to charity. It is an honour. But it’s not for the sake of their health. Rice has nearly played every game this season. Arsenal have to make sure the players they pay are 100% fit. It’s been happening for decades with all clubs. It’s nothing new.

Resident doctors have been left with no choice but to strike. Weeks of negotiations with the Government have failed to deliver enough progress on pay, with the goalposts being moved at the last minute. We have called six days of industrial action to make the Government listen, stop the game playing, and come back with an offer that delivers fairly on both jobs and pay.
