@Thazhigilla_ He can, after he goes to medical school. The fact that software engineers aren't switching tell more about which career is more secure

A medical doctor can wake up, get tired of the ward, buy a Macbook, and pivot into tech. A doctor can buy a ring light and become a content creator or filmmaker. But a Senior Software Engineer cannot wake up, buy a stethoscope, and decide to pivot into the operating theater. There is a hierarchy to this pivot game.

@MohammedAlo Thoughts on the guidelines covering 30 y/o’s now? Just hit 30 with a TC of ~250, LDL 130, low-intensity statins valid in my case? (Lowly anesthesiologist seeking advice lol, don’t know anything about chronic management)

You can just check your LDL-C, if it's over 60mg/dL, you are building plaque. You can get it under 60 pretty easily and never worry about plaque. You don't need to wait until you have calcium in your arteries. Calcium is a late stage finding. Would you tell a smoker to keep smoking until a CT scan shows lung cancer? That's decades too late. You tell them to stop immediately. We can now prevent heart disease. We don't need to wait until it's irreversible! 💪🏻🫀🩺
Brad Gerstner@altcap

We started the Center for Heart Attack Prevention to advocate for widespread CAC scans as a standard of care for everyone over 35 - the mammogram for the heart. Grt to see new guidelines moving in that direction. Universal scans will save 100k lives per year! Get your now! 🇺🇸🤍

CEO of America’s largest public hospital system says he’s ready to replace radiologists with AI. Mitchell H. Katz, MD, the president and CEO of New York City’s public hospital system, has stated that he is prepared to begin replacing radiologists with artificial intelligence for certain diagnostic tasks as soon as the regulatory environment permits. Speaking at a recent panel, Katz highlighted the potential for AI to serve as the "first reader" for routine screenings such as mammograms and X-rays, which would allow hospitals to realize significant financial savings amid the rising costs of human specialists. In this scenario, radiologists would transition into a secondary role, only reviewing images that the technology identifies as abnormal. Other healthcare leaders supported this vision, citing data that suggests AI can be more accurate than humans in specific low-risk screenings. However, this proposal has met with intense opposition from medical professionals who argue that such a shift would pose a severe threat to patient safety. Radiologists have criticized hospital administrators for being "confidently uninformed," claiming that current AI technology is not yet capable of providing independent patient care without human oversight.

Americans are getting laid off every day while foreigners on work visas, (often hired through ethno-nepotism, fake credentials, and shady kickbacks), get to live the American Dream. They're buying new oversized homes in Texas while American workers can't even start families.

@1971Smith @juliaisobela The pockets of administrators and the C-suite who are way overpaid. Now riddle me this - if all doctors were paid $0, do you think patients’ healthcare costs would go down?

Thinking your high scores and GPAs entitles you to a spot in medical school is probably why you “barely” made it in. Beyond a certain threshold no one “deserves” to go to med school more than the next. So much more matters in an applicant. Many “smart” ppl show antisocial traits.
Joseph Younis, MD@YounisJoseph

I scored over a 517 on my MCAT, with perfect scores on my sciences (132/132, 132/132) and had a 3.93 GPA with 2 years of research and lots of leadership positions. Got only 4 interviews and got off a waitlist in May, barely made it.

There is no solution for the shortage of physicians outside of desirable metropolitan areas in the US. This is a consequence of these areas being 60-70 years into a process of outmigration. Doctors match the distribution of other skilled professions, but people somehow imagine physicians will choose to move to the towns that architects, engineers, scientists and even athletes and artists leave.

@PanarchyJay @ColtonOrtolf RCTs are the most objective evidence we can have today especially with intension to treat and hard outcomes like all cause mortality. You simply count the bodies before and after - no tricks.
