Today I attended the rally for parents opposed to gender ideology being taught in our schools, with no way to opt out. As I walked back to my car, I was accosted by several Westboro matrons, who screamed abuse and obscenities at me, ordering me out of their neighbourhood - this was brought on I suppose by the sight of my tee, which said “Woman: Adult Human Female.” I didn’t respond, but I thought about the Edmonton teacher screeching at her students over their absence on June 1st. Mostly what I thought about was her telling them that if they didn’t agree with LGBTQ, they didn’t belong here, and they weren’t Canadian. “Get the f**k out of “my” neighbourhood” is very much like “Get out of “my” country. As though tolerance of the lives, choices and ideas of others is no longer enough. We must now constantly affirm, celebrate and pay homage to a sacred caste. I add that I saw a couple of trans-identifying people I know at that protest. One frequents my neighbourhood, and it would never occur to me to shriek at him, swear at him, and order him to leave OUR neighbourhood. For that’s what it is - our neighbourhoods. Our country. But I feel an ill wind blowing and it seems to me that we are drowning in the madness of crowds.
