A recent benchmark study testing small cell radios deployed in AT&T's network in Dallas showed that 1Finity's #OpenRAN Mini Macro RUs performed "largely on par" compared to Ericsson radios. The U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced that the 2.7 GHz had cleared a key technical review and is now available for full-power commercial licensed use. The 2.7 GHz band offers an excellent combination of coverage and capacity. It is also capable of covering whole neighborhoods, including indoors, and also supports large contiguous channels needed for next-generation, high-throughput applications. Additional spectrum is needed for #6G according to the GSMA Vision 2024 report which predicted that if midband doesn’t grow, more than half the urban population will be capacity-constrained by 2030. According to a new report from TM Forum, the telecommunications industry has reached a point of significant change in the transition to Level 4 #AutonomousNetworks, fueled by a sudden surge in #AgenticAI. TM Forum defines six autonomous network levels numbered 0-5 with 0 denoting manual operations and maintenance and 5 used to designate fully autonomous networks. TM forum is seeing progress toward Level 4 or “highly autonomous networks.” The primary engine behind the sudden leap to level 4 is the transition from traditional automation to agentic AI. Cost cutting is the primary motivation for autonomy with fault detection and resolution, the next highest priority. #CSPs estimate they can resolve 95% of trouble tickets without human intervention, greatly reducing the cost of O&M. #6G made an appearance this year at #MWC26. From a standards perspective, 6G is no longer theoretical, but it is still early as the industry is still in the study phase focused on feasibility. Studies began last year and are expected to conclude by mid-2027, after which #3GPP will decide which features made it into the first 6G release.
